Job Overview 

The Regional Director advances the mission of Wheaton College by building strategic relationships with alumni, parents, and friends to secure major and planned gifts with enduring kingdom impact, both for the college and the world.   This position is full-time and pays between $80,000 - $90,000 annually.   

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Intentionally Relate: Advances strategic relationships through stages of the development cycle: discovery, engagement, proposal, closure, and stewardship. Develop and regularly update individual relationship plans for each person in your portfolio.   
  • Thoughtfully Engage: Discern the interests and passions of current and potential donors in alignment with Wheaton's mission.  Engage them meaningfully through one-on-one meetings, regional events, gift planning seminars, and opportunities for advisory service.   
  • Specifically Propose: Personally present and close an agreed-upon number of proposals for 5-, 6- and 7-figure gifts to the College. Proposals include both outright and planned gifts. 
  • Fill the Pipeline: Identify and build relationships with individuals in your territory who will become future major donors by engaging or reengaging their journey with Wheaton College. 
  • Consistently Learn: Demonstrate ongoing learning and competency in presenting College priorities, funding opportunities, and giving tools through a program of team-initiated and self-initiated learning and involvement in campus activities. 
  • Collaborate: Actively contribute to the collegial culture of the Development team and the broader Advancement division.  Foster positive relationships across the Wheaton College campus and the external community.

 Qualifications 

  • A call to advance God's kingdom through financial stewardship through Wheaton's mission. 
  • Ability to ask for and secure major, principal and planned gifts. 
  • A goal orientation in task accomplishment and a collaborative spirit with colleagues. 
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to be self-sufficient in an office setting.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic and a high level of integrity. 
  • Strong organizational and computer skills, including database management. 
  • 40%-50% travel required, including evening and weekend work. 
  • A bachelor’s degree is required; a graduate degree is preferred. 

Physical Requirements 

The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 10 pounds.  The employee is regularly required to travel by both air and ground and attend meetings in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings.
