Job Summary:

Optometrists examine people's eyes to diagnose vision problems, test patients' depth and color perception and ability to focus and coordinate the eyes, prescribe eyeglasses or contact lenses, and may provide other treatments such as vision therapy. In this role, the optometrist will work aboard a mobile unit, allowing us to better serve our patient population by bringing essential eye care services directly to underserved or hard-to-reach communities. 


Duties:

  •  Assessing patient eye condition. 
  • Examining and testing eye vision and defects. 
  • Refers for minor and major eye surgery. 
  • Prescribe effective medication for eye problems. 
  • Prescribe the use of eye glasses, contact lenses, eye drops and other eye drugs. 
  • Give prior advice to the patient conditions. 
  • Writing referral notices to doctors. 
  • Examine eyes, using observation, instruments and pharmaceutical agents, to determine visual acuity and perception, focus and coordination and to diagnose diseases and other abnormalities such as glaucoma or color blindness. 
  • Prescribe medications to treat eye diseases if state laws permit. 
  • Prescribe, supply, fit and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses and other vision aids. 
  • Educate and counsel patients on contact lens care, visual hygiene, lighting arrangements and safety factors. 
  • Remove foreign bodies from the eye. 
  • Provide patients undergoing eye surgeries, such as cataract and laser vision correction, with pre- and post-operative care. 
  • Prescribe therapeutic procedures to correct or conserve vision. 
  • Refers for vision therapy and low vision rehabilitation. 
  • Able to diagnose other major medical diseases. 
  • Refer patient to other physicians. 
  • Promotes effective working relations and work effectively as part of a team to facilitate the Clinic’s ability to meet its goals and objectives. 
  • Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the Clinic’s overall mission. 
  • Responsibly follows the Clinic Exposure Control Plans/Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens. 
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment. 

Health Requirements: All employees are required to provide proof of vaccination for Flu, Hepatitis B and Tuberculosis (TB) as part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace.

Requirements
  •  Doctor of Optometry Degree
  •  At least one year of related experience in the Optometry field
  • Optometry license  
  • Current BLS or ACLS Certificate required
