The Cumberland Valley School District, a leader in public education in Pennsylvania, seeks a highly qualified candidate for the position of Director of Student & Public Safety.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, employees and visitors through the management and continued development of a comprehensive school safety program. This includes developing, establishing, and enforcing safety and security policies, access control procedures, and accident prevention efforts. This individual will also support risk management efforts, fire safety, emergency management, asset protection, parking control and traffic enforcement programs.

While candidates may present themselves with a variety of backgrounds, all must possess either a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in public administration or criminal justice, or five years of experience as a school safety administrator.

Cumberland Valley is looking for a proven instructional leader who can demonstrate success in the following areas:

Identifying and implementing necessary security policies and procedures.
Serving as the Administrator-in-Charge of the school police department.
Conducting inspections and reporting potential hazards to appropriate departments.
Coordinating and conducting training sessions for staff, parents and students.
Securing facilities, equipment, students and staff by working in conjunction with the appropriate District departments in recommending safety and security equipment purchases, maintaining records of fire and other emergency drills and conducts drills when appropriate.
Supervising and maintaining access control and key distribution.
Conducting and coordinating safety, security and emergency preparedness training by developing, scheduling, and/or facilitating training for staff, students and public safety officials relating to school security, safety and emergency preparedness.
Conducting safety and security planning with school police officers (SPO), local government planners and first responders.
Serving on the District’s Safety Committee and collaborating with committee members to reduce work related accidents.
Providing oversight, documentation and coordination of approval of school volunteers to include background checks, and clearances.
Coordinating school safety compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
Coordinating with administration, public relations, first responders and other appropriate personnel working within the National Incident Management System.
Conducting investigations as directed.
Working with appropriate departments to meet operational security needs and complete capital improvements within budget.
Maintaining district emergency plan to include annual meeting with law enforcement and first responders and training/re-training school district staff on the specifics of the plan.
Monitoring social media in relationship to school safety and monitor “tip line” for anonymous reports of bulling, harassment, or other illegal activity.
Working with Assistant Superintendents to oversee recording keeping and submit the appropriate school safety reports required by the state.

Criminal Record Check (less than one year old)
PA Child Abuse History Clearance (less than one year old)
FBI Finger Print Clearance (less than one year old)
TB Test/Mantoux (less than 3 months old)
Physical - if applicable (less than 1 year old)
