Title: Manager, Shared System
Location: Library Services Center - Collection Management Services Area
Hours: Full-time
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30am - 5pm
Starting Annual Salary: $61,719
FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary:
The Manager, Shared System oversees the staff and activities of the Shared System and extends public library service to Marion County schools, museums, and special libraries through a contractual agreement. Facilitates regular meetings, offers training and mentoring opportunities, and represents the Library to the Shared System membership and community, as well as IndyPL staff. Stays updated on trends in education, museums, and special libraries and works with strategic community partners in addition to Shared System members. The Manager acts as a member of the management team for Collection Management and represents the department in contact with other areas of the library. The Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing the operations and fiscal health of a business unit, department, or an operating unit within an organization. The Manager provides departmental leadership and direction in support of the organization’s goals through staffing, training, performance management, and directing department workflow. The Manager is also responsible for planning and maintaining work systems, procedures, and policies that enable optimal performance of employees, volunteers, and other resources within a business unit.

- Have current graduate level student in MLS/MLIS/History/Public History/Museum Studies.
- Have strong computer skills, especially the MS Suite of programs.
- Have attention to detail and self-motivation.
- Be an Independent, reliable, collaborative worker, and comfortable working alone or in a group.
- Have excellent oral and written communication skills.
What does the job look like?
- Manages Shared System services through ongoing oversight, communication, education and support to all members.
- Collaborates with multiple Library departments to provide services to Shared System members and their patrons. Coordinates system-wide collaboration and procedures.
- Promotes use of The Library’s resources, services, and programs by member libraries.
- Promotes and oversees the IndySchoolShare digital consortium ebook collection.
- Maintains the Shared System website portal and weekly newsletter to build strong connections, trust, and ongoing communication.
- Stays apprised of current trends, issues and practices in public library, education, and library/school partnerships.
- Incorporates the library’s strategic plan collection-related goals and objectives at all levels of planning and work execution.
- Writes and monitors contracts, facilitates annual billing as well as monthly billing for services.
- Calculates and prepares statistical information and reports regarding Shared System activities.
- As needed, coordinates new shared system member implementations, including workflow, departmental and staff assignments, and timelines.
- Maintains strong communication skills, builds relationships at all levels, and responds promptly to requests for assistance.
- Fosters productive relationships with colleagues, patrons, and leadership.
- Maintains shared team files using collaboration tools (SharePoint and Microsoft Teams), with suitable organization and accessibility while adhering to library and state record retention policies.
- Able to work the normally scheduled work time for this position.
- Able to cope with daily job-related stress.
