Job Description: COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE DRIVER (Department #127)
Job Title: Class A CDL Driver (Live Haul, Local)
Manager: Al Burruss
Directly Reports to: Terry Fountain
Works With: Fleet Dispatch and Safety Director
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Maintain current valid commercial motor vehicle operator’s license issued only by one state
or jurisdiction.
2) Maintain current DOT card (medical examination: certificate of physical qualification).
3) Safely drive by reason of experience, training, or both and safely operate the type of
commercial motor vehicle he/she drives.
4) Read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to
understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official
inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.
5) Complete daily vehicle inspections as stated below:
A) Pre-Trip Inspection of equipment (truck and trailers) for safe operation prior to use.
B) During-Trip Inspection of equipment (truck and trailers) for safe operation while in use on
the highways.
C) Post-Trip Inspection of equipment (truck and trailers) for safe operation after road trip is
complete.
6) Must be dependable and maintain a good attendance record.
Physical Requirements:
1) Driver must be at least 25 years of age.
2) Maintain current DOT card (medical examination: certificate of physical qualification).
3) Physical ability for manual labor required for lifting up to 75 pounds and stacking coops ten
high on trailers.
4) Physical ability to get up and down on a commercial truck-tractor and or truck-trailer in
order to inspect vehicle and equipment, inspect and secure equipment and or load.
5) Physical ability to throw trailer chains over ten high stacks of coops and secure load with
chain load binders and or load locks.
6) Must be able to safely drive for extended periods of time not to exceed 11 hours as stated in
the FMCSA regulation 395.3
