Job Summary:
Proactively works with members of the campus community to create usable, equitable, and inclusive learning environments for students at Drury. Receives documentation and requests for accommodation plans for Drury students. The Director develops a plan of action or accommodation for students experiencing barriers; conducts interviews with students and faculty; and reviews medical documentation to ensure equal access. Provides training, technical assistance, and consulting services to faculty, staff, administration, and students on universal design, reasonable accommodations, and local, state, and federal regulations and legislation.
Duties/Responsibilities:

- Serve as a resource for students with documented disabilities for the Day School and Drury GO campuses. Develop and secure reasonable accommodations both within and outside of the classroom to ensure student success and provide a positive student experience. Provide case management and tracking of students with documented disabilities. Collaborate with Burrell health professionals to assist Drury students.
- Correspond with faculty and staff to develop a plan to provide reasonable academic accommodations for classroom work, including administering testing accommodations and proctoring exams in specified locations. Work collaboratively to establish relationships with all campus units (e.g., Housing, Facilities, Registrar, Admissions, Academic Advising) anticipating changes that may create or remove barriers.
- Teach one class during fall and spring semesters, determined by enrollment, major, or Certificate needs, in consultation with the AVPAA and Office of the Provost.
- Administer testing accommodations, including proctoring exams in a quiet, non-distracted location.
- Assist Admissions staff in meeting with prospective students regarding disability services, and administering residential ACT exams as needed.
- Provide Housing office appropriate documentation for students requesting an emotional support animal through a coordinated ESA approval process. Collaborate with Director of Housing on policy adherence.
- Provide assistance and training to faculty and staff regarding disability issues and implementing reasonable accommodations.
- Participate in summer activities including Fusion First Day, Move-In Day, and Orientation.
- Contributes as a positive and effective member of the Compass Center. Collaborates with Career Planning & Development to support career education and planning for students with disabilities. Completes projects in a timely manner, and performs duties as needed and assigned by the Director of the Compass Center.

- Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to student’s rights.
- Knowledge of universal design, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and their application to a university setting is required.
- Knowledge of community support services and funding agencies.
- Ability to review medical documentation and conduct interviews to develop appropriate accommodations is required. Demonstrated ability to evaluate programs for students is required.
- Proficient management skills in order to direct department resources.
- Ability to communicate effectively in order to relate to students, faculty, employers, and so forth. Ability to communicate effectively to solve problems and develop creative solutions when barriers are present is required.
- Substantial experience on a college campus and/or community is preferred.
- Ability to work cooperatively with campus faculty and staff, as well as members of the community at large.
- Leadership skills needed to prepare and implement student programs.
- Ability to speak to campus stakeholders including but not limited to faculty and current and prospective students and parents. Effective group presentation skills are required.
- Commitment to serve diverse Drury student populations based on ongoing personal and professional development is critical to this position.
Education and Experience:
- Master’s Degree in education, guidance and counseling, disability studies, social work, higher education administration, developmental education, rehabilitation, student services, or a related field.
- At least two years of progressively-responsible experience in disability services is required, preferably in higher education.
- Supervisory and budget experience are preferred.
- Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop or kneel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
