Elementary School Counselor
Conway Public School District
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree
- Three years of classroom teaching experience, preferred
- Experience in a public school setting
- Possesses the necessary certification as required by the Arkansas Department of Education

Terms of Employment:
The contract length will be 200 days. The salary schedule will be A & J.
Evaluation:
Based on local district policy and Arkansas Department of Education guidelines, and performed by the building-level principal who is assisted by the assistant principal in regard to evaluations.
Job Goal:
The Elementary Counselor will oversee the successful implementation of the school counseling program in accordance with all applicable state and District guidelines.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures.
- Provides whole class, small group, and individual counseling services for students.
- Assists with the state-mandated testing program.
- Assists with orientation for students who are new to the school regarding procedures and educational opportunities.
- Provides middle school transition services for students.
- Provides consultation to parents, teachers, and administrators regarding student placement, behavior, and development.
- Provides teachers with appropriate information regarding student development or disability to assist in the classroom.
- Consults and refers students and families to community resources.
- Serves as the building-level McKinney-Vento designee.
- Assists with the District’s dropout prevention efforts.
- Is aware of and abides by laws protecting a student’s right to privacy.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings and/or conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships with members of institutions of higher learning and the business community.
- Encourages parental involvement in students’ education and ensures effective communication with students, parents, and teachers.
- Refers students to outside agencies or professional individuals when mental health needs warrant.
- Serves as ready resource to students to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.
