Monitors the plans and work schedules of assigned department(s) for maximum effective utilization of employees, equipment and material consistent with budgetary, cost, and quality standards.  Has input in  performance evaluations, promotions, and other personnel actions.  Ensures established human resources, quality and safety policies are followed.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assigns work and directs workflow through the department for efficient operation while maintaining low costs.  Spends majority of work time performing same work as employees supervised.
  • Supervises one area within the plant, typically 5 to 10 employees.
  • Assures a safe, healthy working environment.  Provides direction of personnel to maintain environment including proper training on equipment and the use of safety equipment.
  • Generates employee involvement and motivation to create a safe and healthy environment, as well as increased production output and profits.
  • Has input on performance evaluations, as well as hiring, disciplinary actions, and promotions of employees in assigned department.
  • Ensures established human resources, quality,  and safety policies are followed.
  • May prepare reports, maintain charts and graphs, and other means of visual and written measurements concerning activities and productivity of assigned department.
  • Promotes and participates in teamwork program within plant/division.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: High School education and three years related experience; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write speeches, presentations, policies, and procedures.  Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers or employees. 
  • Math Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, whole numbers, fractions, & decimals. 
  • Reasoning Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Other Skills & Abilities: Basic understanding of computer operations, ability to interpret blueprints, proficient skills in quality control, production control, knowledge of employment law, and understanding of cost accounting.
