Purpose

Assist in the implementation, and execution of recreational, social, intellectual, emotional and spiritual programs, in accordance with the resident’s assessment and care plan, and as may be determined by the Director of Activities.


Full-time position 8:00am-4:30pm Monday-Friday but must be able to work 1 weekend a month.


Essential Job Functions - Duties

  1. Assist the Director of Activities in implementing and conducting individual and group activity programs.
  2. Provide encouragement and motivation to residents for participation in the activities program and conduct activities in a manner that achieves resident interest and maximum involvement.
  3. Assist Director of Activities in the distribution of a monthly calendar to all residents, through the posting of calendars in centralized common areas of the facility, and through such other special means of communicating events as may be appropriate.
  4. Assemble craft supplies, materials, library services, tapes, records, and adaptive reading materials for conducting the activity program, utilize designated activity and lounge areas, resident rooms, dining rooms, outside areas, and common areas located elsewhere in the building, as determined by the Director of Activities.
  5. Communicate the activities program to staff members to ensure integration in the overall resident care program on a short-term and long-range basis.
  6. Ensure the safe transport of residents to activity areas inside and the outside the facility

  1. Maintain resident confidentiality.
  2. Treat residents with kindness, dignity, patience, and respect.
  3. Know and comply with rules of residents' rights.
  4. Adhere to residents' personal and property rights at all times.
  5. Be observant whether residents' emotional, recreational, and social needs are met.
  6. Follow established policies and procedures for reporting and investigating all resident incidents and allegations of abuse.

Requirements

Qualifications

  1. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and completed high school or obtained the equivalent of a high school education; and
  2. Must be able to positively deal with the public; and
  3. Must possess or have the capacity to acquire knowledge of applicable regulations governing the development and implementation of an effective activities program; and
  4. Must possess the ability to speak to and be understood by residents and staff, and demonstrate the ability to read, write, and follow oral and written directions; and
  5. Must possess an agreeable and helpful attitude toward senior adults.

  1. Has the ability to sit, walk, reach, bend, lift, and has fine hand coordination.
  2. Has the ability to pull, push, and distinguish smells and temperatures.
  3. Has the ability to speak, understand, read and write English.
  4. Has the ability to communicate with staff and residents.
  5. Has the ability to remain calm under stress.
