The McGillis School, an established, independent K-8 school in Salt Lake City, Utah has an opening for a Teaching Assistant in The Learning Center division, beginning August of 2025. This position is 35 hours/week, typically Monday-Friday, 8:15-3:15 PM.

Position Description
The key role of the teaching assistant is to provide support to students throughout the school day. The assistant will spend time working with students within the Learning Center in a variety of capacities as well as support the Director and teachers in supporting various initiatives. This position reports to the Learning Center Director and works closely with students, as well as TLC faculty and staff.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding children as a priority.
- Establish familiarity with the overall program and related resources and materials in order to assist in facilitating learning experiences with students.
- Work with students in small groups, individually, or as a whole class.
- Teach small Wilson Reading groups in grades 3-8
- Push-in or pull-out math or writing support
- Administer one-on-one student assessments
- Substitute for TLC teaching staff when needed
- When needed, support in the general supervision of classrooms, and lunch/recess/playground
- Perform duties as assigned by the director.
- Foster positive and meaningful student interactions and relationships.
- Complete tasks assigned by the director to support classroom environments, materials, and documentation of student work.
- Value and incorporate diverse perspectives in daily student interactions and within the program.
- Attend faculty meetings and professional growth opportunities as required.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience working with students in a school setting.
- Desire to understand and successfully work with neurodiverse students.
- Patience, energy, and physical stamina.
- A willingness to learn about, reflect upon, and support a dynamic learning environment.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of the children and program.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
- Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff, students, and families.
- Knowledge and comfort working with technology tools (iPads, chromebooks, etc).
- A desire to collaborate with colleagues, accept feedback, and conduct oneself in a professional manner.
- Orton-Gillingham or Wilson Reading training preferred and a willingness to participate in various professional development training opportunities.
- Associates or bachelor’s degree preferred.
