General Responsibilities The Middle School Cosmetology Teacher is responsible for introducing students to the fundamentals of cosmetology, including hair care, skin care, nail care, and overall grooming techniques. This role involves creating engaging lesson plans, demonstrating hands-on techniques, and fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment that encourages creativity and skill development. The class is designed to meet the requirements for the PaCE framework.
Qualifications To perform this job successfully the ideal candidate must have the following:
Minimum Bachelor's degree from an accredited College/University
Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) endorsed in a CTE area, Educator License with Stipulations (ELS) endorsed in Career and Technical Education, or Educator License with Stipulations for Career and Technical Education Provisional. (ELS-CTEP)
Certification or licensure in cosmetology (varies by state).
Experience in cosmetology and/or teaching.
CPR and First Aid Trained

Develop and implement a cosmetology curriculum tailored for middle school students.
Teach basic cosmetology concepts, including hygiene, hair styling, skincare, and nail care.
Provide hands-on demonstrations and oversee student practice.
Ensure compliance with school policies and safety regulations. Assess student progress through assignments, projects, and practical demonstrations.
Maintain a clean and organized classroom and lab space.
Encourage creativity and confidence in students.
Collaborate with school staff and administration to enhance the program.
Diagnose the needs of students to provide individual or small group instruction and adapt curriculum as needed based on the identified needs of the students.
Develop and submit lesson plans, as required.
Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
Submit reports to the appropriate person(s), as required.
Communicate with parents, administrators and other applicable school personnel regarding student’s academic and social/emotional progress and accommodations.
Participate in curriculum and program development, and in the selection of materials and equipment to support instruction and learner outcomes.
Develop students’ critical analysis skills through group discussions using a variety of mass media and literature.
Use subject matter knowledge, teaching and learning, best practices, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.
Exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices; follow and implement all district rules, regulations, practices and policies.
Demonstrate a high level of professionalism with the ability to maintain confidentiality and personal flexibility in all areas.
Continuously improve professional practices, model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in the school and professional community.
Works cooperatively with all staff to deliver educational services relating to the instruction of children.
Engage the learners in differentiated learning experiences appropriate to their skill levels and development needs.
Encourage students to think independently and express original and creative ideas.
Participate in / attend building and district meetings, as required and including PLC team meetings.
Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Provides appropriate safety instruction.
Perform any other duties and responsibilities as may be requested by the Principal or designee.
