General Function: Follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures which provide staff and students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to work, learn, play and develop.
Education/Training/Experience: Minimum: None. Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent. Some cleaning and maintenance experience. Bilingual: English-Spanish.
Knowledge/Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures. Demonstrated ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment safely. Demonstrated ability to properly and safely handle cleaning supplies. Knowledge of minor repair techniques, building and grounds maintenance.
Essential Job Functions: Performs all functions in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, facility and computer security policies and procedures. Functions are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the organization. Current essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Maintain a cleaning schedule that will include cleaning of floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms.
Keeps school building and grounds neat and clean; including but not limited to sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas.
Complies with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash.
Assists in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and requests additional supplies as needed.
Assists with lunchroom set up and break down, including arranging tables and chairs.
Performs preventive maintenance to ensure the comfort, health and safety of students and staff.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Task List:
Opens gates and all buildings upon arrival
Turns burglar alarm off and on
Checks building for maintenance and problems
Raises and lowers flags
Sweeps or vacuums all areas
Empties all wastebaskets, big boys and garbage cans
Dusts and washes chalkboards
Dusts all furniture throughout building
Cleans and disinfects sinks, fountains, restrooms, and showers
Replaces light bulbs
Refills towel, toilet and soap dispensers
Mops and disinfects all restrooms, cafeteria and shower room floors
Sets up cafeteria tables for lunch, clean trays, clean and store tables after lunch
Mops all wet areas
Cleans all graffiti
Cleans tops of lockers and writings on lockers
Performs minor repairs.
Dusts windowsills and railings
Keeps all boiler rooms clean and safe
Keeps walks and porches clean and clear of ice
May assist with keeping grounds clean, safe, and free of trash
Cleans bleachers and underneath them
Secures entire complex at the end of the day
Buffs floors
Stores all custodial supplies and equipment
Keeps all custodial equipment operable
Keeps custodial closets clean and safe
Sweeps and spot mop gym floor
Waxes gym floor and hallways
Washes windows (lobby - office)
Dusts and washes walls and fixtures
Strips, polishes, seals and varnishes floors
Cleans skylights
Cleans Venetian blinds and drapes
Washes student desks, tables and bookshelves
Shampoos carpets
Cleans basement
Washes classroom windows
Salary Range and Benefits: $31,200- $33,998+ Medical, dental, and vision benefits are available to full and part-time employees that work a minimum of 20 hours per week.
Resources Used in Performing Job Include (but are not limited to): Broom, mops, water buckets, dustpans, rags and towels, cleaning products, ladders, snow shovels, electric cleaning appliances.
Physical/Cognitive Requirements: Frequent walking, standing, climbing, and heavy lifting and carrying. Regularly required to lift or exert force of up to 50 pounds, and occasionally required to lift or exert force of up to 100 pounds. Must be safety conscious as job requirements provide multiple opportunities for injuries.
Environmental Conditions: Work mostly inside and occasionally outside, on slippery, icy or uneven walking surfaces. Exposure to varied temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials.

Properly notifies supervisor and/or designee of absences or tardiness.
Begins and completes work within the allotted time.
Consistently appears in attire appropriate to the work environment.
Demonstrates skill in the use of equipment including its capabilities, limitations and appropriate/ special application.
Protects the district’s resources through appropriate and careful use of supplies and equipment.
Utilizes appropriate body mechanics to aid in the prevention of muscle strain/injury.
