Job Summary:
The General Ledger Clerk plays a key role in the Accounting Department by supporting accurate financial reporting through timely entry, reconciliation, and maintenance of financial data in the general ledger. This position ensures compliance with internal controls, company policies, and accounting best practices while working in a fast-paced resort and luxury hotel environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare daily journal entries and month-end closing entries related to revenue, expenses, accruals, and intercompany activity.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts, including cash, receivables, payables, prepaids, fixed assets, and accruals.
- Assist with preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements and reporting packages.
- Ensure all entries are properly documented and comply with GAAP and internal accounting procedures.
- Maintain organized records and documentation for audits and internal reviews.
- Assist with budget entry, variance analysis, and financial report distribution.
- Provide support for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll as needed.
- Collaborate with resort and hotel department managers to clarify discrepancies and gather required documentation.
- Support internal and external audits by providing requested schedules, reconciliations, and backup.
- Maintain confidentiality and safeguard the integrity of all financial information.
- Identify and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in hospitality, resort, or hotel setting.
- Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting principles and procedures.
Skills and Competencies:
- Proficiency in accounting software (experience with Microsoft Dynamics, M3, or similar ERP systems a plus).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, reconciliations).
- Excellent attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to sit or stand at a computer for extended periods.
- Occasional lifting of office materials up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to navigate between hotel and resort office locations when needed.
- Work performed primarily indoors in an office setting.
