About the Department

The Project Advisor will assist the Project Director for the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) grant in the overall operations of the SSS program, housed in the Student Success Center at Loyola University. The SSS Project Advisor will recruit and support approximately 65-70 undergraduate students through educational issues such as course and program selection, academic regulations and procedures, identifying campus support resources, cultivating good study habits, identifying opportunities for community and campus engagement, and motivating students to degree completion. The Project Advisor provides personal and academic coaching to increase persistence, retention, and completion rates for program participants.
 

Position Duties

  • Recruit and select qualified SSS participants
  • Build trusting relationships with a diverse student population by delivering personalized, engaging, motivating, and informative academic coaching sessions
  • Maintain a caseload of approximately 65-70 program participants and provide them with services and activities as indicated on their Individual Success Plans
  • Assist participants with course and program selection
  • Advise and coach participants specifically with study skills, time management, goal setting, and motivation
  • Attend and participate in TRIO training and conferences throughout the year. Participate in student coach training and other collaborative workshops with the Student Success Center
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and tracking numbers in Blumen, including adoption rates, trends, and program services/activities
  • Liaise to campus advisors, faculty, and campus partners  
  • Coordinate orientation, workshops, activities, and field trips for SSS students
  • Collaborate with various departments on campus to meet student needs, program goals, and objectives. This includes the Career Development Center, Financial Services, and Office for Accessible Education.
  • Provide referrals and resources on and off campus as needed
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Project Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required.
Master’s degree in Education, Counseling or related fields preferred.
Minimum two years of experience in providing services to high school or postsecondary students
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse students, faculty, and staff
Experience relating to and/or working with low income and underrepresented populations strongly preferred
Experience working with TRIO programs and/or a social service, educational setting strongly preferred
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access
Ability to manage, secure and maintain confidential information/documents.
