Position Overview

At Melvyn’s, servers are more than order-takers, they are curators of memorable dining experiences. With a warm, polished demeanor and in-depth knowledge of the menu, you will guide guests through culinary offerings with enthusiasm and grace. This role is integral to creating a service experience that reflects Ingleside Estate’s old-Hollywood charm and Proper Hospitality's dedication to excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Greet guests with a professional and friendly approach, providing a warm welcome in line with company standards.
• Clearly communicate daily specials, promotions, and menu items, including ingredients and preparation methods.
• Take and confirm complete food and beverage orders with accuracy, using the POS system with correct table, guest count and seat numbers.
• Ensure timely delivery of food and beverages; maintain attentive service throughout the guest’s meal. Ability to cook menu items tableside. 
• Upsell thoughtfully, recommending wine pairings, specialty cocktails, or desserts to enhance the guest’s experience.
• Present and process final checks accurately and promptly.
• Handle payments (cash and  or card), ensuring accuracy in end-of-day reconciliation with minimal discrepancies.
• Complete assigned side work and support team members to maintain a seamless and elevated dining environment.
• Stay current on all menu changes and chef features; confidently answer guest questions and offer thoughtful recommendations.

• A key requirement for this role is punctuality, including showing up on time for scheduled shifts, in uniform ready to work, and adhering to all rest and meal break standards as well as the company's attendance policy.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in a fine dining or upscale restaurant setting.
• Must be at least 21 years of age (to serve alcoholic beverages).
• Exceptional communication skills and a guest-centric attitude.
• Knowledge of food, wine, and beverage pairings preferred.
• Able to multitask and remain composed in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs and push/pull up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and navigate crowded spaces while carrying trays.
• Must be able to bend, lift, reach, and move items during the shift.

Required Certifications

• Valid RBS (Responsible Beverage Service) certification – State of California
• Valid Riverside County Food Handler’s Card

At the historic Ingleside Estate & Melvyn’s Restaurant, an old Hollywood glamour runs deep: Built in the 1920’s for the heirs to the Pierce Arrow Automobile Company, it was later purchased in 1935 by Palm Springs pioneer Ruth Hardy. Through the years, Ingleside served as a Palm Springs escape for A-list names including Frank Sinatra, Marlon Brando, Marilyn Monroe, and Elizabeth Taylor, with a legacy that's still felt in its serene, hedge-lined grounds. A relaxed elegance is palpable throughout the 30 Spanish Revival rooms and suites, and on the lush lawn with pool and hot tub. The iconic dining experience of Melvyn’s restaurant and lounge completes this picturesque setting to play and escape it all.
