Science Writer, Office of CommunicationsThe Science Writer will be a critical member of the Communications team and will pitch, report and write news and feature stories about Broad research and members of the Broad community for the institute’s website. The writer will also work closely with other members of our team to produce video scripts, create compelling social media content, develop newsletter, web copy and other multimedia content to drive clear, concise, and creative scientific storytelling for a variety of audiences. The writer will report to the Communications team’s managing editor and collaborate with graphic designers, web developers, video producers, the social media manager, and the team’s half-time science writer on a variety of communications projects for external and internal audiences.The writer will also immerse themself in Broad’s vibrant research community, attending talks, learning new science, looking for and pitching compelling story ideas, meeting and interviewing researchers across faculty, staff and trainees, and working with them to fact-check stories.The candidate should have the following:Excellent writing skills and the ability to turn complex, technical topics into clear, accurate, succinct and compelling stories for a general audience.A strong eye for creative story ideas and angles that highlight the impact and uniqueness of Broad research.A love of science and biology and a passion for making it accessible to the world.A strong ability to juggle multiple projects, shift gears quickly when needed, and hit tight deadlines.A bachelor’s degree.Minimum of 1 year of experience in science/medical/health writing and/or communications.Background in science, journalism, and/or multimedia production is a plus. This hybrid position will be based at the Broad Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts, requiring at least two days per week in the Broad office alongside the rest of the Communications team.Applicants must submit a resume, cover letter, and 1 to 3 writing samples that showcase relevant skills.
