SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: This class is responsible for planning/organizing/coordinating the safety and training programs for the Fayetteville Public Works Commission. Responsibilities include, yet are not limited to: conducting inspections and recommending corrective action; investigating personal accidents/injuries, and Assisting in conducting safety training; maintaining/updating safety manual and PWC Safety Management Manual. Delivering training as needed, while developing areas of expertise. Assist as needed in training staff; preparing/maintaining necessary records/reports, issuing audio-visual equipment. Entering data into and maintaining databases with compliance to OSHA, NESC, NFPA, FMCASA, DOT, and all other regulatory laws, regulations and rules. Assisting in developing multimedia visual aids and other educational materials. Assist with organizational development, serving as informational connection. Assist with data entry and reporting, flow of correspondence, requisition of supplies. Responsible for maintaining logs, files, and reports, as well as implementing/continuing procedures for systematic retention/protection retrieval/transfer/disposal of records. Operating under general supervision of the Department Manager, leeway is allowed for the exercise of independent judgement in carrying out the details of the work. Performs related work as required and assigned, to include supporting Human Resources and PWC functions as necessary. 

EQUIPMENT OPERARTED: Computer, calculator, communication equipment, and other equipment as required. 


FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of safety rules/regulations/ procedures; thorough knowledge of the objectives/principles/practices of personnel safety management; thorough knowledge of a wide variety of occupational categories/qualifications required by Federal/State/local laws and regulations governing safe working requirements. Working knowledge of training, adult learning, and employee development. Skilled in administrative processes and procedures, excellent English grammar & vocabulary, skilled in MS Office Suite and business math. Skilled in computer use and applicable software; ability to analyze problems relative to working 
conditions/accidents/injury situations/draw conclusions/recommend appropriate action or solutions with tact; ability to plan/organize/schedule work effectively; ability to make oral presentations before a group audience as a means of teaching or explaining; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, vendors, outside agencies and businesses, and all levels of employees. 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (either) 

(A)    Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a degree in industrial safety or related field and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in industrial safety and training including experience in the administration, development, and enforcement of safety programs; OR
(B)    Graduation from an accredited two (2) year college with a degree/certification in industrial safety or related field and a minimum of four (4) years of experience as defined in (A) above; OR
(C)    Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and a minimum of six (6) years of experience as defined in (A) and (B) above; OR
(D)    An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as defined in (A), (B), and (C) above.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess/maintain a valid Driver's License, with acceptable driving record

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position

SAFETY HAZARDS: Minimal.

PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: As required in the Public Works Commission's Safety Manual.

GRADE 408 $29.58-$38.98/HOUR
