About the Department

Loyola University Filmmaking seeks a dedicated Equipment Room Manager to oversee the daily operations of the program’s equipment holdings. This role is central to supporting the hands-on learning of film production students and maintaining the integrity, availability, and functionality of industry-standard equipment including cameras, lighting, grip, and audio gear.

The Equipment Room Manager is responsible for the curation, maintenance, checkout, scheduling, and training associated with the Film program’s technical resources, while also supervising a team of student workers.

Position Duties

  • Manage and maintain all departmental production equipment, including cameras, lighting instruments, grip gear, sound recording equipment, accessories, batteries, storage media, and related tools.
  • Oversee daily operations of the equipment room, including equipment check-outs, returns, repairs, and troubleshooting.
  • Create and manage student schedules for equipment room shifts, ensuring adequate coverage during all open hours.
  • Train and supervise student workers, including onboarding, technical training, and accountability.
  • Instruct and support film students in the proper handling, setup, and use of production equipment—both in workshops and one-on-one sessions.
  • Track inventory using asset management software, maintaining accurate records of all equipment movement.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs of gear as needed, including vendor communications and service requests.
  • Collaborate with faculty to ensure students have access to appropriate gear for class productions and coursework.
  • Implement and enforce safety and usage policies, including equipment loan agreements and loss/damage protocols.
  • Contribute to strategic planning for equipment upgrades, acquisitions, and budget proposals.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Work evenings and weekends on occasion. 
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree. Bachelor's degree in film or other related field preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of practical experience in post-production work.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and manage resources
  • Ability to supervise students and student workers.
  • Proficiency with technology and related tracking software.
  • Extraordinary oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to function autonomously and handle an array of information.
  • Exceptional professional skills to establish and maintain successful working relationships with administration, staff, faculty, students and general public.
  • Ability to work in high-energy environment, handles multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to climb stairs as needed.
  • Ability to lift approximately 50 pounds.
