General Statement of Job:
This is a professional position in which the incumbent provides direct care for patients at the C. L. Brumback Primary Care Clinics. The incumbent works collaboratively with the Psychiatrist and Medical Providers to provide patient assessment and diagnosis, formulate treatment plans, prescribe medications, order laboratory tests, provide patient education, prepare medical records and refer patients for inpatient care in accordance with statutes, regulations and protocols regulating the profession. The incumbent works under the supervision of the Psychiatrist and the Medical Director.
The APRN Psychiatry will also be responsible to cover for other providers as appropriate at other clinics during vacations or other absences.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for service delivery and outreach to migrant and/or homeless populations in Palm Beach County at the existing health centers, along with other community sites, as directed by Clinic Administration.
Compiles and evaluates medical and psychological histories of the patients.
Performs complete physical assessments of patients.
Identifies and evaluates problems, complaints, and symptoms as reported and presented by patients, by patient families, or by staff about the patients.
Initiates treatment and therapies according to the protocols established mutually with the supervising physician.
Prescribes medications, monitors medications, and alters medication according to the protocols established with the supervising physician.
Orders and performs tests and procedures according to the protocols established mutually with the supervising physician.
Plans and conducts health education for patients, families and facility staff related to the patient's medical condition, treatment, or prognosis.
Provide behavioral health services within the scope and practice as defined by the Florida Board of Nursing.
Assess, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate an effective and efficient treatment program that will appropriately meet the needs of patients utilizing best care practices, industry standards, organizational guidelines, appropriate accreditation standards, and applicable federal laws, including HIPAA
Obtain comprehensive health histories, request special diagnostic and laboratory tests, interpret test results, and develop comprehensive psychiatric treatment plans
Provide mental health assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans in identified areas; provide medication management for patients; and maintain appropriate health records
Prescribe pharmaceutical therapy consistent with medical evaluation, treatment plan and current standards of practice
Refer clients for more specialized or inpatient interventions as clinical situations dictate
The ability to triage and prioritize emergency appointments and walk ins within a structured schedule while communicating with the team as to how to get all patients assessed.
Have the ability to triage basic medical problems and refer appropriately.
Have the capability of taking care of basic psychiatric problems while referring appropriately.
Participate in a team management approach to patient care/treatment.
Can perform mental status examinations and appropriate physical exams.
Maintain appropriate files; develop and follow through on treatment plans within organizational guidelines; and prepare reports on the clinical management of patients
Maintain quality care through participation in peer review, policy development and quality improvement programs
Maintain appropriate documentation of clinical services, including all necessary billing information
Ensure accurate and consistent use of encounter forms for all client contacts with behavioral health providers to ensure accurate billing of third party resources
Maintain and update professional knowledge and proficiency through continuing education, staff meetings, workshops and serving on special committees
Participates in the patients plan of care, interdisciplinary team meetings, committee meetings and rehabilitation meetings when necessary.
Discusses findings as needed with attending physician, consulting staff, and medical service providers.
Continually monitors the health care services provided, reviews the results of test and procedures, making notations and changes in patients' plans or orders as necessary to meet the individual patient needs according to the protocols established mutually between APRN and the supervising physician.
Contacts the physician for any condition requiring direct evaluation or specific consultation by the physician according to the protocols established mutually with the supervising physician.
Interacts with the patients' family members as needed.
Emergency duty may be required of the incumbent that includes working in Red Cross shelters or to perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats or disasters, man-made or natural. Additionally, incumbents are required to perform emergency response and management duties for Palm Beach County as required.

Qualifications
Education:
Successful completion of accredited Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) training.
Experience:
- Three (3) to five (5) years previous experience related to the above describe duties. Previous experience assessing and providing medication management for patients with behavioral health disorders in a psychiatric or primary care setting. Experience with children, adolescents, and adults necessary.
- Working knowledge and experience assessing and treating adults/adolescents with alcohol and other drug abuse/dependence
- Expert clinical judgment and the ability to be self-directed and demonstrate initiative in an expanded role.
Certification:
- Must be certified by the ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center) as a PMHNP-BC
- Current ACLS or BLS certification required.
Licensure:
- Must be licensed as a PMHNP-BC through the Florida Board of Nursing and she must be certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
- Must have DEA and DEAX number and follow all requirements for the waiver.
- Buprenorphine Waiver Training required within six months of hire.
