Position Description:
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Tax is responsible for tax strategy & planning and manages compliance for Federal, State, Local and International requirements. Infinite partners with an independent tax advisory firm to provide advice and counsel for virtually all tax-related matters, and to prepare the federal and state income tax filings. This Director-level position is newly created and will be the direct liaison with the 3rd party advisor and provide direct oversight of their work. Additionally, this position will partner with executive management and the private-equity investment sponsor to develop and implement tax strategies available to the company.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plays a key role in determining strategic tax planning opportunities.
- Ensures the timely and accurate filing of all corporate income (federal & state), sales & use, and property tax returns, some are internally prepared and some externally prepared.
- Works closely with the 3rd party advisor, providing direct oversight of their work and counsel on all direct tax matters, along with any missed tax items both domestically and internationally. .
- Prepares tax workpapers and responds to information requests from third-party advisors related to the preparation of federal & multi-state returns as well as year-end tax provisions.
- Oversees compliance reporting in international subsidiaries.
- Supervises two direct reports; develops the team and encourages staff training.
- Supports preparation of estimated payments and provides weekly tax cash-flow forecast to Treasury function.
- Performs a key role in M&A projects: supports tax due diligence; tax provision preparation for acquired entities; manages compliance as set out in the purchase agreement relating to pre/post-acquisition tax filings.
- Provides transfer pricing guidance – maintains a transfer pricing model and works with third-party advisors and internal functions on ensuring transfer pricing is within required guidelines.
- Manages federal and state audits; responds to agency inquiries and tax notices.
- Reviews general ledger tax balances including tax roll-forward schedules and sales & use tax accruals.
- Maintains an up-to-date Accounting Calendar incorporating all taxation and regulatory filing requirements.
- Responsible for integrating acquired companies specifically relating to tax & compliance requirements.
- Business Lead for tax & compliance issues on cross-functional projects.
- Identifies process improvements such as automation of sales & use tax filings.
- Maintains legal entity organization chart and supports restructuring efforts (for example, dissolving dormant entities).
- Responsible for other compliance reporting such as: unclaimed property; annual filings; census reporting.
- Provides direction and assistance to the Finance function on all tax planning and projection activity.
Required Experience, Interpersonal and Leadership Skills:
- 10+ years working in tax related field, mix of public and private experience.
- 5+ years of managing small team.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
- CPA Qualification and/or Advanced Degree in Taxation/Accounting.
- Strong management skills and an effective team leader.
- High level of technical tax knowledge and experience.
- Must have strong analytical, problem-solving and organization skills.
- Ability to work independently, proactive personality with desire to assume additional responsibilities.
- Effectively work across various functions and be the interface between technical advisors and the business.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint.
