Position Duties
The Town of Marana is seeking a Visual Communications Designer to work in the Communications Division of the Town Manager's Office. This is a full-time position and an exciting opportunity to contribute to the communication and marketing materials that shape how the community sees, experiences, and connects with the Town.
As a Visual Communications Designer, you will collaborate with departments to support the delivery of 5-star services across all areas of Town operations, including public safety, recreation, development services, utilities, internal services, and more. Your work will be highly visible, including but not limited to being featured in parks, on videos, at events, and throughout Town facilities. This position is instrumental in upholding and evolving the Town’s brand, which reflects the professionalism and integrity of Marana’s public services.

Expected Hiring Range: $56,739 - $70,924
- Placement within the expected hiring range is dependent on direct experience, internal equity and/or budget
Salary Range: $56,739 - $85,109
Minimum Qualifications
Strategic
- Supports the Senior Visual Communications Designer in the implementation of the Town of Marana brand management and marketing strategy
- Works closely with departments to create visual concepts that promote and support a wide range of Town programs, initiatives, and services.
- Serves on internal and external committees/tasks forces to provide visual design expertise, ensure consistency with the Town’s brand standards, and support the development of clear, engaging materials across departments.
Implementation
- Designs and produces a wide range of printed and digital materials to support Town branding, events, programs, and campaigns—including logos, icons, video graphics, and content for web, intranet, and mobile platforms
- Provides creative input and design expertise across projects; makes informed choices about style, color, and composition to ensure visual consistency and brand alignment
- Collaborates with department representatives to plan, schedule, and complete projects; provides cost estimates, recommends production methods, and evaluates themes, target audience, budget, and timelines
- Contributes to organizing and keeping the town photo repository
Other Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, graphic design, visual communications or related field (Additional relevant professional experience may substitute for required education on a year-for-year basis.)
- Over three years of experience working in the creative design field, with a strong portfolio demonstrating well-rounded knowledge of design principles and techniques, composition, typography, communication, and concept definition, or closely related field
- Practical expertise in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop
- Knowledge of the Microsoft Suite, including Office, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint
- Knowledge of social media platforms
- Ability to pass the Town of Marana background check
An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the desired knowledge, skills & abilities to successfully perform essential functions may be considered.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Municipal or public sector experience
- Ability to produce high-quality work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative atmosphere, articulate and present creative ideas and concepts, and receive feedback
- Ability to develop and grow new skills in response to evolving design trends, technologies, and community engagement strategies
- Awareness of visual accessibility standards and best practices
- Familiarity with maintaining brand consistency across multiple platforms
