PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Assist the teacher in meeting the instructional needs of students with disabilities. Work under the general supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Work with and under the immediate direction of the teacher(s) to whom assigned.
Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce motor and/or cognitive skills as assigned by the teacher.
Assist in supervising students throughout the school day--inside the classroom, lunchroom, hall, playground, and transportation.
Work with an identified student, in any assignment.
Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.
Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials.
Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.
Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
Assist the teacher in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.
Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
Cooperate with other staff members in the movement of students from one activity to another.
Participate in staff development training programs and faculty meetings.
Enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local Board Policy.
Ride a special school bus to assist handicapped students in getting on and off the bus and in maintaining order.
Assist students who have personal hygiene problems.
Other duties as assigned to meet the needs of special education students.
