The Director, Marketing Communications is a team leadership role responsible for overseeing all integrated marketing communications across Outdoor Cap's portfolio of brands and customer segments. This role directly manages the Marketing Leads (Retail, JUNK, Promo/Sports), Licensing Coordinator, and Tradeshow & Events Coordinator, serving as the connective tissue across campaigns, messaging, brand visibility, and customer-facing touchpoints.
This leader will own the master marketing calendar, streamline creative approval processes, and champion team development. The ideal candidate is a highly organized, confident communicator with a proven record of mentoring talent, building cross-functional trust, and leading teams who deliver campaigns that grow brand equity and revenue.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Operations
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 6-8 direct reports across marketing leads, licensing, and events.
- Establish clear roles, feedback loops, and shared KPIs across functions.
- Implement consistent planning and review processes (weekly standups, campaign reviews, retrospectives).
- Owns strategic marketing relationships as appropriate across retail, sports, and promotional verticals.
- Champion the work and successes of the team and cross-functional work being done to grow our brands.
Campaign Oversight & Marketing Calendar
- Own and maintain the master marketing communications calendar across all business units and seasonal activations.
- Serve as final approver for campaigns, messaging, and creative concepts.
- Ensure integrated storytelling across owned, earned, and paid media as well as retail and digital platforms and downstream industry channels and customers.
Creative Liaison & Brand Stewardship
- Partner closely with the Head of Creative to uphold brand standards and accelerate campaign timelines.
- Serve as the point of escalation and review for high-impact creative—balancing quality, speed, and strategic clarity.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Act as a strategic liaison between marketing, creative, digital, sales, and executive teams.
- Translate marketing strategy into executable briefs and ensure alignment across functions.
- Drive process improvements that reduce bottlenecks and improve time-to-market.
Performance & Optimization
- Develop and track department-level OKRs tied to brand growth, campaign ROI, and team effectiveness.
- Analyze and report on communication impact (e.g., brand recall, campaign reach, engagement, and sales when possible).
- Establish post-campaign review process with lessons learned and test-and-learn recommendations.

Education and Qualifications
- 8+ years in marketing communications, brand, or integrated marketing roles.
- 3+ years directly managing a team with multiple stakeholders and functions.
- Experience in B2B and DTC marketing, preferably in consumer products or apparel.
- Strong understanding of retail, promotional, and digital marketing channels.
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to juggle planning and real-time execution with composure and clarity.
Physical/Mental Requirements
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position (seated) 80% of the day and occasionally reach, bend and move inside the office to access files and product.
- Required to have close visual acuity to perform computer tasks and operate other office machinery.
- The person in this position frequently communicates with internal and external customers and must be able to exchange accurate information in a clear manner.
- Ability to move 10-20 lbs occasionally throughout day.
- Able to hear a telephone ring.
