RESPONSIBILITIES


At our facility in Bear Island, Virginia, you can develop your full potential, sustainably, by applying your expertise within the Containerboard Packaging team as the Technical Manager Utilities:

  • Lead and manage 20–25 employees in the Utilities Department, including Boiler Operations, Wastewater Treatment, and Landfill Operations
  • Ensure environmental compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations
  • Own the environmental calendar and oversee reporting, permit renewals, and inspections
  • Support the LCT Team and site-wide responsibilities such as fire protection systems, security, and stormwater management
  • Maintain accurate documentation and databases for compliance and environmental performance
  • Respond to discrepancies or violations and ensure timely resolution
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and support investment projects
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure operational excellence
  • Contribute to emergency response planning, spill management, and insurance compliance
  • Recommend equipment upgrades and process optimizations

  • Extensive experience managing powerhouse and/or effluent treatment operations
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance programs
  • Familiarity with air emissions, water pollution control, hazardous materials, and waste management
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines and priorities
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to influence and gain buy-in for proposed solutions
  • Experience with SAP or other ERP systems (an asset)
