We are currently looking for an Intermediate to Senior Underwriter, to join our team in our Burnaby office. As an underwriter, you will play a key role in developing and growing business by writing new business, managing a renewal portfolio, and expanding our product offerings to brokers across Canada. What You will Do:

  • You will underwrite basic to moderate Course of Construction projects, commercial accounts, and manage local brokerage plans.
  • You will evaluate risks and make sound underwriting decisions based on company guidelines, risk appetite, and pricing strategies.
  • You will develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and insurers, providing exceptional service and value-added solutions.
  • You will manage the submission, quoting, and binding process for new and renewal business with accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness.
  • You will collaborate with other underwriters, brokers, and internal teams to drive profitable growth and meet assigned monthly sales goals.
  • You will negotiate policy terms and conditions with brokers and insurers, ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • You will analyze data and trends to identify new business opportunities and assist in 

Who You Are:

  • You must have 5+ years of P&C underwriting experience, with a focus on commercial lines.
  • You must have experience with an MGA or a broker with in-house underwriting authority is strongly preferred, as this role operates differently from a full-fledged insurer.
  • You must understand how to prepare and manage bordereaux reports.
  • You must understand how to prepare for audits and referrals.
  • You must understand how to work effectively within a brokerage setting with underwriting authority (“pen”)
  • You must be licensed and familiar with how a brokerage operates is ideal.
  • You must have professional designations such as CIP, CRM, or FCIP are strongly preferred (or actively working toward completion).
  • You must have strong technical knowledge of insurance products and services, with a proven ability to apply this knowledge in a creative and innovative way.
  • You must have demonstrated a track record of achieving underwriting profitability and growth targets.
  • You must be proficient in data analysis and Excel; experience with data visualization tools is an asset.
  • You must have strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills with the ability to turn insights into action.
  • You must have an entrepreneurial mindset with the potential to create and grow new programs within WMB.

COMPENSATION

  • The expected salary range for this position is $80,000 to $115,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate's skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position's business line, scope, and level.
