Hybrid Tree Inspector at City of Burnaby

This is semi-skilled arboricultural work in the inspection of the City’s tree assets on City property including urban forests, parks, and boulevards. An employee of this class inspects trees to assess health, stability, and condition; prepares work orders for tree maintenance or makes recommendations for tree removal and replacement. Determines appropriate tree protection requirements for City tree assets at development sites; provides tree protection requirements to developers; inspects tree protection fencing. Organizes the tree removal and replacement process upon management’s approval in alignment with the Tree Management Policy; performs tree valuation to develop quotes for tree removals and replacement costs. Communicates findings and outcomes of tree inspections to public, developers, other departments, and supervisors. Attends to daily and storm-related tree emergencies; determines tree maintenance and pruning requirements. Collects and verifies City tree data; updates and maintains the information system; completes and maintains a variety of records and reports. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by related technical courses, plus sound related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Sound knowledge of the tree biology including the names and varieties of trees; of relevant department policies, procedures, and processes. Ability to effectively communicate tree inspection findings and to work under minimal direction. Skill in the use and care of arboriculture equipment and tools. Certification as an Arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture, Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) with the International Society of Arboriculture, Tree Appraisal Qualification with Arboriculture Canada and a Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia are required.

This is a Temporary Full Time position until March 13, 2026.
