The 200,000-square-foot, three-story facility will offer a range of essential healthcare services including an Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging Services, 34 Medical/Surgical beds, 10 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds and 4 Operating Rooms. Overview
This position performs technical procedures in the laboratory with excellence and participates in all technical aspects of test quality control, performance, review, and documentation. Also serves as a resource for instrument maintenance and troubleshooting with proper documentation. The technical specialist assists in the quality assurance program by collecting and analyzing data in conjunction with the supervisor and/or manager and assisting with the implementation of systems improvements. The position participates in all aspects of Proficiency testing and in maintaining a constant state of readiness in the department to meet all Standards for accreditation from College of American Pathologist (CAP), DNV, State, OSHA, CLIA, etc. The technical specialist assists in the training of new and existing personnel as well as students. The technical specialist may also be responsible for managing the clinical rotations of the MT/MLT students. The technical specialist may be asked to assist in the writing of Standard operating procedures, and employee competency evaluations. The technical specialist assists in the inventory and purchase of required supplies utilizing cost savings initiatives whenever possible.
What you will do
- Responsible for ensuring department is maintaining accreditation from College of American Pathologist (CAP),
DNV and other accrediting agency standards (as required) within the department. Duties include but are not limited
to: validation testing, performance of proficiency samples, preventative maintenance, QC documentation,
Temperature Checks, method comparisons, etc. Demonstrates compliance with laboratory QA/QI program. - Maintains a safe environment by complying with RHS policies/procedures/regulatory requirements that support the
Patient Safety Goals and Quality Initiatives. Recognizes and reports variances and provides resolutions.
Uses appropriate protective equipment, body mechanics and follows safety guidelines and procedures; identifies
and acts to resolve variances or suspected non-compliance. - Demonstrates reliability and flexibility in meeting the needs of the customer, RHS and Department. Demonstrates a
sense of urgency to facilitate positive customer service throughout the department/facility. - Demonstrates ability to recognize, respond and communicates collaboratively with physician regarding variances
in laboratory operations and patient data. Demonstrates the ability to build collaborative professional relationships
with a multi-disciplinary team to support patient care needs. - Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of the technology systems necessary for efficient department
operations. Takes responsibility for equipment, instrumentation and technology to maintain and ensure
functionality. - Performance of testing completed accurately to ensure quality patient care to include preanalytic, analytic and
postanalytic phases. - Participates positively in training and support of all team members, volunteers, and students.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelors Degree, Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Lab Science, or health science equivalent (Required)
Experience
- 2 years Clinical Laboratory experience (Required)
- 5-6 years Clinical Laboratory experience (Preferred)
Licenses and Certifications
- Medical Technologist (MT) - The ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist (ASCP or AMT) Upon Hire(Required) or
- Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) - American Medical Technologists (AMT) (ASCP or AMT) Upon Hire(Required)
