Job Description:
As a key member of the leadership team, the Executive Director – Ambulatory Operational Support will oversee essential operations for John Muir Health Physician Practices (JMHPP). This role is responsible for ensuring operational excellence across several critical functions, including clinical and patient access services, revenue cycle management, and business operations.The Executive Director will work closely with senior leadership to implement strategies aimed at optimizing practice performance and supporting the successful execution of organizational goals. This role will lead three primary areas: Ambulatory Clinical Excellence, Ambulatory Patient Access and Revenue Cycle, and Medical Group Support Services, while ensuring the smooth integration of operational, financial, and strategic initiatives across JMHPP.
In partnership with both the Vice President of Foundation Practice Operations and other senior leadership, the Executive Director will help assess organizational effectiveness and drive continuous improvement across practices. The role will include managing teams responsible for performance improvement, resource allocation, and the development of best practices. Additionally, the Executive Director will collaborate closely with shared services to optimize support functions like finance, marketing, HR, and IT, ensuring all services meet or exceed performance expectations.
The Executive Director will manage the execution of performance improvement programs and maintain relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to drive innovation and best-in-class operational performance. Additionally, this role will lead and guide principles, systems and behaviors in alignment with supporting the True North Pillars, regularly speaking to appropriate pillars as needed.
The Executive Director – Ambulatory Operational Support will report directly to the Vice President of Foundation Practice Operations (FPO) and will provide leadership to a cross-functional team, including directors and operational managers, to ensure high performance across the organization.
Education/Experience/Skills Requirements:
Education
Bachelor's Degree - Required
Master's Degree Business Administration, Health Administration or related field - Preferred
Experience
10 years Management - Progressive Leadership in Large Ambulatory/Physician Practice or Medical Group - Required
Team Building - Required
Change Management - Required
Working with Physicians, Building Strong and Trusting Relationships with Physician Leaders - Required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to make timely and informed decisions with the ability to delegate
A high level of comfort, knowledge and experience regarding finance, cost control, productivity enhancement, government regulations and reimbursement methodologies
A demonstrated understanding for clinic operations, including significant continuous quality improvement expertise and interest
Demonstrated familiarity with computer systems, programs, and applications with an ability to instill this in others
Ability to develop a strong, successful, and responsive management team that is quality oriented, metric driven, and focused on customer experience
Delivers written and verbal communication in a clear, concise, compelling manner to effectively engage others and achieve desired results
Advanced skills in the arts of negotiation and persuasion
Excellent physician relation skills and ability to engage physicians by providing valuable insights and logical explanations when faced with difficult questions
Ability to think creatively and strategically and develop innovative solutions to challenging problems
Extensive operations management experience in leading large multi-specialty practices with greater than 150 physicians - Preferred
A continuous learner who can demonstrate competencies as outlined in the medical practice Body of Knowledge through
professional achievement in attaining Certification/Fellowship in the American College of Medical Practice Executives
(Medical Group Management Association), and/or in American College of Healthcare Executives - Preferred
Preferred Qualifications (if needed)
Lean Certification or Six Sigma Certification - Preferred
