SUPERVISORY TRAINING INSTRUCTOR (AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE)

The primary purposes of this position: Serve as a first level supervisor providing planning, direction, organizing work, and exercising control over assigned nonsupervisory subordinate employees. Supervises Training Instructors who instruct in initial skills, advanced, and/or supplemental Technical Training courses.

Major Duties:

  • Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the section/unit, ensuring that the courses taught comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meet customer needs Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities Develops and/or revises lesson plans and training materials Instructs students through assigned blocks of instruction at basic and/or advanced levels Represents the training unit/element supervised with a variety of installation and functional area organizations and works on special projects as directed

Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: knowledge of basic aircraft maintenance procedures, aircraft system theory, common test equipment, common tool usage, technical orders, automated maintenance management systems, safety, security, management and maintenance directives. Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of instruction to include the use of training aids and devices used in training programs. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of instructional design and materials development. Knowledge of tests and measurement principles, techniques, and objectives. OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in education or LL.M., if related to a subject area related to the position to be filled. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of a wide range of the principles and practical methods, techniques, and tools of instruction to teach a variety of students with a range of differences such as diverse ages, backgrounds, and levels of interest. 2. Knowledge of Aircraft Maintenance with a specialty in statistical methods of data analysis, computer application software, data retrieval techniques, the operation/maintenance of MIS, the procedures for maintaining and correcting data systems, the interpretation and use of reports from MISs, and the presentation of maintenance data., safety, management and maintenance directives. 3. Knowledge of safety, security, personnel management, and EEO regulation, practices, and procedures. 4. Knowledge of Aircraft Maintenance career field functions and capabilities. 5. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization. 6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
