Position Summary

Brown Advisory is currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced investment professional to join our private investments team. This role offers the opportunity to lead and support the full lifecycle of private market investments across a variety of asset classes with a focus on equity-oriented strategies. The ideal candidate will be responsible for sourcing and evaluating new opportunities, conducting in-depth market research and financial analysis, and leading due diligence efforts. They will report directly into the Head of Private Investment Research and will play a key role in further building out the firm’s private investment activity. This role will ideally be based out of our Baltimore, MD office with potential for our Washington, DC office.

The primary duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Provide end-to-end support of private markets opportunities, including sourcing, market research, financial modeling, due diligence, analysis, and lead coverage of new and existing private investments

  • Support and lead investments for the firm’s multi-manager vehicles, SPVs and client (e.g., family office, OCIO, etc.) portfolios

  • Lead and participate in due diligence discussions with current and prospective private investment firms

  • Present and discuss due diligence findings and investment recommendations in weekly research meetings

  • Maintain direct engagement with existing and prospective managers, lead regular on-going meetings, and monitor performance, portfolio exposures, and organizational changes

  • Collaborate with legal, compliance, investment, and operations teams to support fund diligence and onboarding

  • Maintain coverage of a diverse portfolio of existing investments and lead post-investment monitoring and due diligence of these opportunities 

  • Develop and maintain internal and external collateral and marketing materials related to existing and prospective investment opportunities 

  • Prepare materials for client meetings and participate in client discussions

  • Work directly with internal portfolio management teams to support portfolio construction processes

  • Communicate consistently with a variety of internal stakeholders, including contributing to presentations on the private market environment, existing and prospective investment opportunities 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • CFA and/or MBA preferred

  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in private markets investing, manager research and/or fund selection

  • Direct experience managing relationships with investment firms, including sourcing, underwriting, and closing investments

  • Demonstrated knowledge of private equity, credit, and real assets markets, with an emphasis on private equity

  • Advanced financial modeling and analytical skills

  • Capable of prioritizing and executing multiple tasks and projects in a dynamic, deadline-oriented environment; results-driven

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal 

  • Entrepreneurial spirit, proactive mentality, and diligent work ethic 

  • Demonstrated ability to develop meaningful insights from in-depth research and analysis

  • Ability to work in an office location and travel as needed

DC & MD Salary: $185-$200k. Commensurate with experience and location. Does not include bonus or long term incentive eligibility (if applicable).
