Summary :
The Scanner & Abstractor ensures medical information is scanned, abstracted, or filed into the appropriate section of the electronic medical record in an accurate and timely manner to improve quality service and patient care. Initiates follow-up when necessary.Job Description:
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Is responsible for documenting accurate transfer of information into the patient’s electronic medical record in a timely manner using current technology.
Recognizes appropriate information to be added to patient’s medical record. Utilizes critical thinking to identify and eliminate the addition of inappropriate information.
Collaborates with patient care team to effectively and efficiently assist in the completion of the medical record by notifying of information outside of normal range to determine next course of action for the patient.
Prioritizes work by interpreting patient information that is significant for the continuity and progression of patient care.
Works independently towards prioritized goals for each respective team.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or GED preferred
Must be 18 years of age
Completion of medical terminology course
One year healthcare experience utilizing medical terminology or medical records skills
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of twenty-five (25) pounds without assistance
Job classification is not exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Normally works in climate controlled office environment
Frequent sitting with movement throughout office space
Consistent use of computers throughout the work day
Frequent use of keyboard with repetitive motion of hands, wrists, and fingers
