Job description
The Global Commercial Bank (“GCB”) Business Controls team equips GCB with the tools and resources needed to identify, escalate, debate and mitigate operational and compliance risk. The team provides primary support for Global Commercial Banking, however, may support efforts spanning other Global Banking businesses as well. This role is focused on supporting operational risk management and business controls, providing oversight and monitoring of GCB compliance with regulation, policy, and procedures. The successful candidate must have or develop a deep understanding of GCB and it’s global business, as well as a deep understanding of the sales operations and risk programs supported by the team. The candidate should also have a broad understanding of the enterprise and financial services industry. The ability to collaborate with Business Controls peers, Line of Business and Product subject matter experts and Control Partners (including Compliance / Operational Risk / Audit / Regulatory Relations) will be critical to success.
Office location flexible to other Global Commercial Bank domestic location.
Typical candidates have at least 5 years of banking experience and risk management and/or commercial banking experience or exposure. The position resides on the GCB Business Controls team, housed within the GCB National Operations and Business Integration function, supporting multiple aspects of risk management work. Candidate must be able to thrive in a fast-paced and professional environment with the following responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
Lead, manage and govern multiple risk and control programs, in partnership with GCB leaders and Business Controls teammates, to effectively manage operational risk and ensure GCB compliance with regulation, policy, and procedures:
- Global Records Management: Serve as GCB’s Records Coordinator, complete required local QA activities, manage GCB’s adherence and compliance with records management requirements.
- Global Information Security: Enable GCB Sales teams with GIS guidance and support for information security matters. Manage GCB’s enhanced consequence model and publication of regular information security communications. Engage in GIS partner forums and provide GCB’s leadership team with updates on related business performance.
- Client Fee Refunds/Waivers: Provide oversight and reporting for fee refund risk management reviews, approvals, and controls.
- Consumer Liaison: Serve as the GCB liaison to Consumer Banking regarding upcoming financial center closures, ensuring GCB sales and client impacts are understood.
- Notary and Signer: Govern and support GCB’s notary program.
- Anti-Boycott: Complete periodic Corporate Tax deliverables regarding whether GCB has any operations in a boycotting country.
- Own and anchor select GCB procedures, largely driven by Enterprise policy and/or regulatory requirement. Serve as the GCB subject matter expert, providing guidance, driving adherence and monitoring business performance for associated programs including but not limited to Global Records Management, Collaboration Site Use and Responsibility, Notary & Signer Process, Non-Analysis Fee Refunds Arrangement Exceptions, Freedom To Act (Standard Authority Limits), and more.
- Maintain program summary documents and evidence of process control routines for the risk program(s) supported.
- Analyze, monitor, interpret, and report data and information related to risk and control programs and leverage it to identify and drive resolution of potential issues or inefficiencies.
- Liaise with Business Controls management and teammates, business process owners, and Control and Support Partners (e.g. Global Compliance and Operational Risk, Technology, Operations, Human Resources, etc.)
- Anchor select audit and inspection activity within the business.
- Support operational risk mitigation efforts via Issue or MRA remediation.
- Support other management routines as required related to Line of Business’ internal control disciplines.
- Act as an ambassador of the risk culture.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with 5 years of experience with preference for operational risk or compliance program experience and/or experience working with one or more wholesale banking divisions.
- Demonstrated project management skills and ability to manage multiple competing/concurrent priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to independently lead and drive initiatives with limited direction and supervision.
- Partnering and communication skills (both orally and in writing), with the ability to effectively interact with and influence leaders and employees at all levels of the organization.
- Agile and competent at adapting to changing business needs and applying critical thinking to drive change.
- Ability to assess risk and determine when to raise concerns and escalate.
- Analytical skills with investigative mindset and proven ability to leverage data to drive business insights.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Highly organized.
- Ability to work well in a collaborative team environment, but also independently with effective time and organization management.
- Strong proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, and SharePoint along with the ability to quickly learn new programs and applications.

Desired Skills:
- Working knowledge of Global Commercial or Corporate Banking processes and systems.
- Direct involvement in (or in support of) sales operations, sales activities, or strong working knowledge of sales/controls processes of a wholesale/institutional business unit.
- Knowledge of and ability to navigate the enterprise.
- Strong technical expertise in SharePoint design and/or PowerPoint and/or Excel; Ability to improve reporting and analytics efficiency.
