We are seeking a talented Data Engineer to join our team and play a key role in building and maintaining our data infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) with a focus on BigQuery to unlock the insights about the coolest cities in the world (timeout.com) in combination with our food hall market business (timeoutmarket.com).

Responsibilities


  • Design, build, and deploy data pipelines on GCP, so data flows seamlessly from databases, cloud storage, and streaming services into BigQuery. Think of it as building data highways!
  • Craft and optimize data models that make storing, retrieving, and analyzing data in BigQuery a breeze. Picture yourself as the data architect, shaping how information is organized.
  • Leverage BigQuery's built-in features (think SQL and materialized views) to transform and summarize data like a boss.
  • Put your problem-solving skills to the test by developing automated checks to ensure your data is always on point. Data consistency is key!
  • Collaborate with product managers, data analysts, and other data enthusiasts to understand their needs and design solutions that make them cheer.
  • Dive deep into code reviews, tackle technical challenges head-on, and continually refine your data pipelines for peak performance.


Skills and Experience


We're looking for someone who:

  • Has 2+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or a similar role.
  • Understands the fundamentals of data warehousing, and ETL/ELT processes
  • Experience with SQL and has experience with BigQuery Standard SQL.
  • The ability to gather and understand requirements and to translate them into appropriate data ingestion pipelines and/or database models
  • Familiarity with cloud computing concepts and GCP services (Google Cloud Platform) - especially BigQuery, Cloud Composer (Airflow)
  • Proficient in scripting languages like Python (experience with Cloud Functions a plus)
  • Thrives in a collaborative environment and communicates clearly.
  • Has a burning passion for data and a hunger to learn new tech.


Beneficial skills:

  • Experience with data governance and security best practices
  • Experience with cloud-based workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Dataflow)
  • Experience with data visualisation tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau)
