Accounting & Payroll Specialist

Job Type: Contract-to-Hire
Starting Pay: $30.50/hour, with higher pay available depending on experience
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM (1-hour lunch)

Position Summary

We are hiring an Accounting & Payroll Specialist to handle weekly payroll, payroll tax activities, employee reimbursements, and a variety of accounting and employee-support functions.

The right candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with confidential payroll and financial information while managing multiple deadlines.


What You'll Handle

    Payroll & Employee Support

    • Process weekly payroll for office and field employees.
    • Maintain payroll records and review payroll processing systems for accuracy and timely processing.
    • Enter and verify employee changes, including new hires, terminations, pay-rate changes, benefits, 401(k), garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
    • Prepare, balance, and review payroll transactions and related records.
    • Process weekly employee expense reimbursements.
    • Provide administrative support to Human Resources as needed.
    • Payroll Tax & Compliance

      • Prepare and submit payroll tax filings on a weekly, quarterly, and year-end basis.
      • Assist with year-end payroll requirements, including W-2 preparation and processing.
      • Maintain appropriate payroll records and documentation.
      • Support internal and external audits by gathering requested records and information.
      • Accounting & Administrative Duties

        • Assist the Accounting Department with day-to-day accounting activities.
        • Process and reconcile company credit card transactions.
        • Download and upload weekly data files related to health and dental insurance.
        • Maintain accurate financial and employee records.
        • Help ensure payroll and accounting information is complete, accurate, and submitted on schedule.
Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in Accounting or a related field required, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 3+ years of related experience.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll processing, including:
    • Payroll preparation and balancing
    • Payroll taxes
    • Internal controls
    • Employee deductions and benefits
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently while supporting HR and Accounting functions.
