Description
The Company
MaverickX is revitalizing critical resource extraction with precision biologics. We are a team of scientists, engineers, and business operators who are bringing cutting-edge biotechnology products to the world’s most critical industries.
The Team
The Applications team owns the testing and performance validation of our chemistry, responsible for both lab evaluation and field execution. It is a small, cross-disciplinary group that works directly with technical operators to deploy, prove, and iterate on our solutions. Beyond the current field program, the team evaluates new applications for our chemical platform across the oilfield.
The Role
We are seeking a Director of Applications to lead the field implementation of our flagship oilfield product and to build the team and technology roadmap behind it. PetroX Boost is a biochemical treatment that selectively alters mineral phases in unconventional reservoirs, with the objective of enhanced oil production. We are currently planning field deployments with leading energy companies across America's most prominent shale basins.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You will personally own lab-scale testing and validation, treatment plan design, field performance validation, product iteration, and the development of new applications for our platform, collaborating closely with the Growth and Bioprocess teams.
Responsibilities
Treatment Design and Trial Ownership: Own end-to-end treatment design for our field program: fluid volume and concentration, carrier fluid, injection rate, pressure limits, shut-in, and flowback strategy. Translate laboratory dose-response, reaction kinetics, mineralogy, coreflood results, fracture geometry, and treatment economics into documented field recommendations.
Field Execution: Own the field deployment protocol, supervise treatments on location, interpret real-time data, and lead post-job evaluation.
Placement & Diversion: Design placement and diversion strategies that achieve coverage across the full treated interval, for both standalone (e.g., bullhead) and frac-integrated deployment, and determine which delivery mode fits each well and customer.
Customer Engagement: Work with the Growth team to build and conduct field partnerships with operators, serving as the technical voice in key customer discussions.
Formation Screening & Basin Expansion: Build the screening criteria that determine which formations and basins PetroX Boost serves.
Team Leadership: Lead the Applications team across stimulation chemistry, field engineering, and reservoir analysis. Set the technical agenda, develop the people, and own the function's results. Grow the team as the field program scales.
Product Development: Lead the evaluation and development of new oilfield applications for our chemical platform.
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
BS with 15+ or MS with 10+ years in stimulation, completions, or production enhancement, with personal end-to-end ownership of treatment designs and their outcomes
Direct, hands-on experience designing and executing stimulation or acidizing treatments across multiple basins
Technical depth in matrix acidizing, reaction kinetics, placement and diversion, and precipitation and formation damage
Experience specifying or interpreting coreflood and rock-fluid interaction testing
Demonstrated ability to design for novel fluid systems where field history and offset data do not yet exist
Experience leading, building or mentoring technical teams, or clear readiness to lead and build one
Credible as the most senior technical voice with operators, both technical and executive
Bias toward action and strong ownership; comfortable without a corporate playbook
Strong desire to meaningfully contribute to American dynamism and the global resource supply chain
Preferred Qualifications
Formal chemistry training alongside a stimulation engineering career
Prior leadership of an applications, technical services, or field-technical organization in oilfield chemistry
Direct experience in the Permian, Bakken, and Eagle Ford basins
Experience with bio-based chemistries
Experience with both standalone treatments and stimulation integrated into completions
Working familiarity with production chemical programs and how stimulation fluids interact with them
Operator and service company experience
