The Maintenance Technician is a critical member of the operations team, responsible for performing maintenance, repairs, and inspections of water and wastewater systems and related infrastructure. This position ensures that all mechanical and electrical equipment operates efficiently and reliably, supporting the delivery of clean water and effective wastewater treatment to the community. The role involves both fieldwork and on-site facility maintenance, requiring hands-on technical skills and a proactive approach to safety and system performance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on pumps, valves, motors, and water/wastewater treatment equipment
  • Inspect and maintain pipelines, meters, and mechanical systems to prevent service disruptions
  • Assist with emergency response to equipment failures or system outages
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections
  • Operate hand and power tools, forklifts, and other mechanical equipment safely and efficiently
  • Support installation of new equipment and infrastructure upgrades
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, environmental regulations, and industry standards
  • Collaborate with operators, technicians, and other staff to optimize system performance

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in mechanical, electrical, or plumbing systems preferred
  • Proven experience in mechanical or facility maintenance, preferably in water or wastewater operations
  • Strong understanding of pumps, motors, valves, and other mechanical equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and operational procedures
  • Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and mechanical diagnostic equipment
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces
  • Valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and environmental stewardship
