At Meyer Orthodontics, our mission is to provide elevated care to our patients through small actions that result in big change. We're growing, and we're looking for an Orthodontic Dental Assistant to join us in our newly expanded Brookings office.
This role is pivotal to our mission. You'll guide patients through their treatment journey, assist the orthodontist in clinical care, and help create the kind of positive, welcoming experience that keeps patients smiling — inside and out.
Schedule
- Monday: 7:30 am – 5:00 pm (Brookings)
- Tuesday: 7:30 am – 5:00 pm (Madison, SD every other week)
- Wednesday: 7:30 am – 5:00 pm (Brookings)
- Thursday: 7:30 am – 4:00 pm (Brookings)
No nights, no weekends.
What you'll do
As an Orthodontic Dental Assistant, you'll wear many hats — from chairside clinical work to patient education to keeping our clinical area running smoothly.
Patient care and flow
- Greet patients warmly and seat them for their appointments
- Guide patients through each visit and dismiss them with a clear progress update for parents
- Give patients instruction on cooperation, motivation, and at-home care
- Anticipate and assist the orthodontist's needs chairside
Clinical procedures
- Take panoramic and cephalometric radiographs
- Capture intraoral digital scans for appliances
- Take intraoral and extraoral photographs
- Place and remove separators
- Check patient appliances prior to adjustments or wire changes
- Change archwires and elastic ties
- Deliver retainers and other removable appliances
- Assist with banding, bonding, debanding, and debonding procedures
- Remove bonding materials
- Re-cement loose bands and rebond loose brackets
- Fabricate or fit headgears, lip bumpers, and preformed appliances
- Prepare bracket setups
Documentation and operations
- Chart procedures, charges (if applicable), and next-visit timing
- Document all patient communication and procedures in the patient chart
- Duplicate patient records and x-ray films
- Clean and prepare units and chairs between patients
- Maintain sterilization protocols for instruments
- Restock clinical supplies
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the orthodontist

- Google Workspace (Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Calendar)
- Dolphin Management (orthodontic practice management software)

Requirements
- Licensed Dental Assistant in the state of South Dakota (required)
- Friendly, outgoing, and genuinely enjoys working with people
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Collaborative team player with a detail-oriented mindset
- Comfortable with technology — we use Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Calendar) and Dolphin Management software
- Orthodontic experience is a plus but not required — we're happy to train the right person
