Position Summary
As a mission-driven school, Burke’s is seeking a French teacher for grades 5-8 who can educate, encourage, and empower girls by developing their knowledge, skills, and cultural/historical understanding of the French language. With an emphasis on project-based learning and a commitment to anti-racist education, students should be able to connect their learning to the world around them, develop reading comprehension skills, and communicate their ideas through speaking and writing. While serious in mission, Burke’s is also committed to the experience of learning being a joyful one where play, creativity, and growth mindsets are fostered and encouraged.
Primary Responsibilities include:
- Teaching one section of French to each grade, 5-8
- Formally assessing and reporting on student progress in the third trimester using checklist/narrative report cards
- Providing extra-help sessions during and after the school day, as needed
- Communication:
- Effective communication with colleagues in support of a collegial and collaborative professional community
- Timely and supportive communication with students, parents, and caregivers to continue a strong partnership with families
- Collaboration:
- Participate in Upper School Language team meetings in addition to attending weekly faculty meetings
- Supervisory duties and community participation as applicable
Requirements
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent
- Experience teaching, preferably at middle-school level
- Demonstrated confidence in:
- the French language
- differentiated instruction
- cultural competency
- use of technology in instruction
- Commitment to:
- equitable and anti-racist teaching practices
- Understanding of, and appreciation for:
- the social-emotional development of adolescent girls
- providing opportunities for learning through play by inviting creativity, imagination, curiosity, and tinkering into the classroom

Benefits
Compensation
Burke’s offers competitive compensation with a salary range of $70,000 - $150,000 based on years of experience plus advanced degree stipends. Salary is prorated based on percent FTE and portion of the school year remaining. Comprehensive benefits are provided including retirement plan contribution for eligible employees.
