Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) is responsible for impactful outcomes from the work of Texas Center for Local Food (TCLF). The ED is responsible for financial health, mutually rewarding partnerships, operational effectiveness and efficiency, and for creating a stimulating work environment for the TCLF team. The ED will develop deep knowledge of TCLF’s flagship projects, including TXFED.org, Texas Local Food Directory, and Farm Business Services.
This position is part-time and may become full-time as funding permits and needs require.
Activities and Responsibilities
- Ensure ongoing operational excellence, rigorous evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems.
- Provide resources needed for the TCLF team to meet its mission and for the team to have what they need to do their jobs and provide high quality services with joy.
- Manage and coach staff, oversee performance, work planning, and professional development.
- Actively engage and energize TCLF’s Board members, partnering organizations, and funders.
- Generate revenue through sales of services, including TXFED.org, Texas Local Food Directory listings, and general services contracts for training and technical assistance.
- Lead grant prospecting from public and private sources, working with the team to develop mission-aligned, competitive proposals.
- Maintain robust progress tracking systems, regularly evaluate operational components, and measure successes that can be communicated effectively to all stakeholders.
- Work closely with the Financial & Administrative Manager and TCLF team to prepare financial and progress reports for funders and stakeholders.
- Deepen and refine all aspects of communications – from web presence to external relations with the goal of maintaining a strong brand, to internal communication that maximizes mutual understanding.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations and adhere to high ethical standards.
- Use external presence and relationships to secure new opportunities for TCLF.
- Be a positive role model for stakeholders and support the mission of TCLF.
- Use effective verbal and written communication to present information accurately and clearly.
- Present all materials in a well-organized format to ensure they are easily understandable and, where necessary, reusable by others.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in any field.
- At least five (5) years of senior management experience with a successful leadership track record.
- At least five (5) years of experience with farming, agriculture, or local food systems.
- At least two (2) years of personal self-work on dismantling racism and other systems of oppression.
- Ability to prioritize effectively to focus on impactful work.
- At least three (3) years of experience in financial management for budgets exceeding $500,000.
- Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performing, self-directed teams.
- Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to management.
- Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
- Ability to proactively lead mission-driven work with passion and integrity
- Highly proficient in office technology (MS Word, Excel), web platforms, email, etc.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least two (2) years working in the private sector, in the past ten (10) years.
- At least (10) years of experience with food, farming, agriculture, food systems, or related fields.
- Speak and write fluent Spanish.
- More than five (5) years of personal work to dismantle racism and other systems of oppression.
- Experience ensuring accessibility of technology for people living with a disability.

Work remotely from any Texas location. You must provide your own Apple computer, iPhone, and internet access. All work is to be over a secure internet connection.
The estimated workload for this position is 20 hours per week. The majority of hours are expected to be worked during standard business hours, Monday-Friday from 8:00 am-5:00 pm. The Executive Director may determine their 20-hour schedule within these parameters to best meet organizational needs. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.
Benefits
Salary is $40,000-$45,000/year for part-time (20 hours/week), with a health care reimbursement, technology stipend, and paid time off.
