Position Overview
Aspen Technology Group is seeking a hands-on Lead Network & Systems Engineer to serve as the technical authority across managed services, commercial network infrastructure, and residential access network deployments for Aspen Fiber Networks (AFN).
This role combines MSP governance, commercial LAN/WAN design, OLT/ONT provisioning, field deployment participation, SaaS inventory oversight, and mentorship of MIS interns.
This is not a helpdesk role. This is a technical leadership position responsible for establishing standards, protecting service quality, and supporting scalable infrastructure growth.
This position is on-site in Houston and requires field participation during network builds.
Core Responsibilities
Managed Services Governance
- Maintain architectural oversight of managed client environments
- Enforce SLA response-time (≥95%) and resolution-time (≥90%) compliance
- Reduce ticket reopen rate (≤5%) through quality control
- Oversee ticket triage and priority discipline
- Standardize technical stack across managed accounts
- Lead onboarding of new managed services clients
Commercial LAN/WAN Infrastructure
- Design and deploy business LAN/WAN architectures
- Configure firewalls (NAT, VPN, policy rules)
- Implement VLAN segmentation and routing policies
- Coordinate ISP handoffs and perform network cutovers
- Document topology, configuration standards, and deployment templates
Residential Access Network Engineering (AFN)
- Configure and provision OLT platforms (Nokia, Adtran, Harmonic)
- Develop and maintain VLAN and service profile standards
- Provision and activate ONTs
- Implement QoS and traffic shaping policies
- Integrate OLT platforms with aggregation and switching layers
- Participate in field deployments during initial community builds
- Validate rack/stack, uplinks, and service turn-up
- Coordinate vendor escalations when necessary
- Maintain access network documentation standards
SaaS Governance & Operational Reporting
- Maintain a rolling SaaS inventory ledger by customer
- Reconcile contracted vs. active license quantities
- Identify discrepancies and provide structured reconciliation reports to Operations
- Ensure monthly reconciliation is completed on schedule
(Billing corrections and financial adjustments remain under Operations.)
Internal IT & Technical Leadership
- Onboard ATG staff (technical provisioning and security configuration)
- Maintain internal endpoint and security compliance
- Supervise and mentor rotating MIS interns (3–4 per semester)
- Assign structured technical tasks and review deliverables
- Ensure accuracy and quality control over delegated work
Performance Expectations
- ≥95% response-time SLA compliance
- ≥90% resolution-time SLA compliance
- ≤5% ticket reopen rate
- Accurate and timely monthly SaaS reconciliation
- Strong service-driven client retention
- Operate within approved labor budget
- Maintain documented technical standards across environments
Requirements
- 5+ years MSP or network engineering experience
- Demonstrated experience designing commercial LAN/WAN networks
- Experience configuring GPON/XGS-PON OLT environments
- Strong understanding of VLAN architecture, service profiles, and QoS
- Hands-on firewall and routing configuration experience
- Microsoft 365 administration experience
- Experience with RMM and PSA/ticketing systems
- Strong documentation discipline
- Professional client-facing communication skills
- Reliable transportation required
- Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends during deployments or cutovers
