Job Overview

The CVI Violence Interventionist is responsible for reducing gun violence by engaging with individuals identified as being at high risk and connecting them with support services. This role combines street outreach, relationship building, and intensive case management.

Job Responsibilities 

- Identify and engage individuals at high risk of gun violence through the Gun Violence Reduction Strategy, utilizing networks, relationships, outreach, social media, and other means to connect them with life coaching services.

- Respond to shooting scenes to provide support to victims, their families, and their networks, ease tension, gather information, and discourage retaliation.

- Visit hospitals at the request of the family or individual to engage recent gunshot victims, offer support, build relationships, and discourage retaliation.

- Attend community events and funerals in neighborhoods with high rates of violence to engage high-risk individuals and build relationships.

- Conduct workshops in local juvenile and adult correctional facilities to build rapport with individuals who may be high risk upon release.

- Develop Life Plans (case plans) with each client and maintain consistent contact according to the client’s phase in the program.

- Use the City’s incentive program to provide stipends and other incentives for clients achieving milestones in their Life Plan.

- Write brief email reports to the supervisor summarizing responses to shooting scenes, hospital visits, and community events.

- Serve as a liaison between Live Free USA and community engagement programs to address gun violence, economic justice, climate equity, and health disparities.

- Attend all mandatory and necessary meetings and trainings, including staff meetings, team meetings, Case Conferences, and all other trainings.

- Follow all directions and guidance from the supervisor.

 

This role requires consistent empathy and professionalism, with a primary focus on establishing positive, trusting relationships with community members to support their decision-making and improve their quality of life.
