Description
The Respite Provider offers short-term, temporary care and supervision to an eligible DDD member (child or adult) to give the primary caregiver an interval of rest and relief. This service is focused on the immediate needs of the member, providing a safe, supportive, and engaging environment during the caregiver’s absence, rather than on formal skill training goals (which is the purpose of Habilitation)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervision and Care:
- Provide comprehensive supervision and care to the member at all times during the authorized respite period to ensure their health, welfare, and safety.
- Meet the member's immediate social, emotional, and physical needs during the respite interval
- Engage the member in planned or spontaneous recreational and social activities that are appropriate for their age and developmental level.
- Personal Assistance (as needed):
- Assist the member with personal care and Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) as directed by the primary caregiver and documented in the service plan. This may include bathing, toileting, dressing, grooming, and feeding.
- Follow specific instructions regarding the member's mobility, positioning, and use of adaptive equipment.
- Implement protocols for managing any immediate behavioral or medical needs, as directed by the primary caregiver and the PCSP/ISP.
- Professional Conduct:
- Maintain ethical and professional boundaries with the member and their family.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding the member's information (HIPAA).
Requirements
- Age: Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Experience: Previous experience caring for individuals with developmental disabilities (such as Autism, Intellectual Disability, Cerebral Palsy, or Epilepsy) is preferred.
- Background and Certification (Required upon hire or within a short, defined period):
- Possess a valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Current Certification in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
- Must be proficient in verbal and written English to accurately document services and follow caregiver instructions.
