The Equipment Maintenance Technician will efficiently operate equipment for the metal recycling center. Interpret technical issues to prevent equipment and facilities downtime and proactively pursue building, equipment, and maintenance related issue.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Execute routine maintenance on metal recycling machinery, including Material handlers, Balers, Forklift, Cat skids steer, sorter/separator, etc.
  • Inspect, lubricate, and fine-tune equipment to maintain optimal performance.
  • Diagnose and rectify equipment malfunctions promptly.
  • Analyze equipment issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Identify recurring problems and devise preventive maintenance plans.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and foster a culture of safety within the team.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections on equipment and promptly report safety concerns.
  • Maintain meticulous records of equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Organize and maintain tool rooms and checkout systems.
  • Keep an inventory of spare parts and order replacements as required.
  • Collaborate closely with other team members and departments to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Offer guidance and training to junior maintenance technicians, if applicable.
  • Rapidly respond to equipment breakdowns or emergencies to minimize downtime.
  • Assist in quality control processes related to equipment functionality.
  • Recommend equipment upgrades or modifications to enhance efficiency.
Requirements

Experience

  • High School Diploma
  • 3+ years proven experience as an equipment maintenance technician, ideally in an industrial or metal recycling environment.
  • Class B or C license to drive roll off trucks to maintenance shops as needed is a plus
  • Knowledge of local recycling regulations, waste management practices, and industry standards.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety protocols and the ability to work safely with a variety of equipment.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the capacity to work independentlyy and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
  • Flexibility to work variable shifts, including weekends.
  • Capability to lift and transport heavy objects.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., OSHA, maintenance certifications) are a plus

Work Environment

  • Frequent bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress.
