Facilities Operative Apprenticeship at The Halifax Academy
Join our team as a Facilities Operative Apprentice, helping to keep our school clean, safe, and well-maintained. You’ll support site security, daily maintenance, and uphold high health and safety standards while promoting the welfare of all pupils and staff.
Apprenticeship Overview:
- Salary: £7.55 an hour, Automatic pay increase after one year on programme for 19+ year olds
- Working Week: Monday to Friday 10am till 6pm with breaks included
- Hours: 37.5 hours per week
- Duration: 12 months

Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor any issues relating to cleaning equipment and product compliance (COSHH).
- To act as a key holder, carrying out security procedures for the buildings and grounds, carry out the routine and non-routine opening of The Halifax Academy estate.
- Providing access, where possible, to the premises and classrooms in the event of snow or minor flooding
or similar emergency situations. - Undertake risk assessments where relevant with support of the Facilities, Services & Estates Manager.
- Carrying out first line repairs and maintenance
- Ensuring that all areas within the site are free from litter and that all drains and gullies are free flowing and clean.
- Ensuring that all caretaking and cleaning equipment is in a safe and working condition and arranging for repair as appropriate.
- Carrying out routine procedures or checks on ancillary equipment, e.g. fire alarms/equipment, water checks
- Carrying out Academy based procedures in the event of fire, flood, breaking and entering, accident or major damage.
Regularly set up and remove furniture e.g. exams and daily assemblies. - Distribute and relocate equipment and incoming goods and occasional collection of miscellaneous provisions away from academy premises.
- At all times to carry out the duties in accordance with Academy based policies and Health and Safety procedures, including risk assessment.
- To respect confidentiality using the Academy protocols for sharing information, e.g. child protection information
- The postholder will be required to undertake any other professional duties as required.

Desirable:
- Experience working in a school or educational setting.
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above).
- Interest in facilities management, maintenance, or site operations.
- Willingness to undertake further training and gain qualifications.
- Basic knowledge of health and safety regulations.
Potential full-time employment for the right candidate upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.
