  • Responsible for leading 2-3 team members to develop new products for local/global automotive OEM market. Working closely with marketing and technical teams
  • Planning and executing laboratory research for the development of automotive OEM coatings and securing Intellectual Property Rights
  • Translate the needs of the automobile market to the future technologies from ideation through development and implementation for automotive OEM coatings

 

Main Tasks

  • Develop products (Primer, Basecoat & Clearcoat) OEM markets meeting or exceeding customers’ expectations.
  • Speedy execution of projects to ensure achievement of defined milestones on time, on budget and on quality through collaborative working with Global technical and cross-functional teams in Mangalore.
  • Lead team in highly global and collaborative work environment to develop cutting edge automotive OEM Coatings technologies
  • Learn and utilize LEAN principles in product development projects
  • Performing root-cause analyses and running proof of concept experiments.
  • Technical presentation to internal and external stakeholders: Project update meeting, R&D review meeting, Phase gate reviews.
  • Prepare and submit invention disclosures and support IP team for filing patent applications and technical evaluations of patents and applications.
  • Excellence in technical advances in your working field and exploring new opportunities in coating chemistry and processes.
  • Maintaining Quality Management Systems for Product Development (ISO9001, IATF 16949) and DFMA
  • Implement EHS procedures to maintain safe working environment that supports lab activities.
  • To ensure the safe handling of hazardous chemicals and adherence to PPE usage of the lab personnel and the Work Permit system is properly followed. Compliance of process safety and environment code as per BASF practice.
  • Conduct walkthrough and audits in EC labs to ensure early identification of hazards and initiate timely corrective actions and preventive practices.

Minimum Education and Qualification Required for the Position

  •  Education: PhD in Chemistry /Polymer
  •  Working Experience: PhD with minimum 5 years’ experience in Paints & Coatings
  • Technical & Professional Knowledge: Knowledge in material science, surface coatings chemistry along with deep understanding on polymeric structure and property relationship
