The Chariho Regional School District is seeking a district 1.0 FTE Literacy Teacher for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year. This position is split between Ashaway Elementary School and Richmond Elementary School. The Literacy Teacher leads library media classes with a strong emphasis on developing students' writing skills. In addition to classroom instruction, this role will involve active participation in the district’s Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) team, analyzing and summarizing data, contributing to developing and implementing interventions, and coaching educators to develop plans to support diverse learners. Qualifications: Hold or be eligible for Reading Specialist/Consultant certification or Library Media Specialist Certification, Grades PK-12 Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned): Implements the Library Media & STEAM curricula with a strong emphasis on writing and literacy skills and adheres to the policies and related directives of the Chariho Regional School District. Seeks opportunities to integrate the English Language Arts curriculum with the curriculum of other content areas and disciplines. Promotes the attainment of the District’s Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan. Displays strong and deep knowledge of the Science of Reading and the philosophical foundations and content of the English language arts curriculum, Library Media Curriculum, and the MTSS Framework. Takes responsibility for personal and professional growth. Applies current evidence-based best instructional practices and strategies to deliver the curriculum. Provides professional learning to teachers to enhance the school’s MTSS data through common planning time, data team meetings, MTSS meetings or district professional development days. This may include teaching demonstration lessons and coaching before or after school. Coordinates curricular needs in cooperation with the Assistant Superintendent’s office, The Director of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support and Success, and the principal to ensure all necessary materials are provided. Supports the school principal with all MTSS teams and data needs. Provides specific and targeted literacy instruction designed to accelerate student achievement in literacy when needed. Serves as a support or resource to the classroom teachers, the principal, and the district administrators. Organizes and supervises MTSS-based activities and planning Supports Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 Screening, identification, and services for students eligible for differentiation or additional supports. Provides training for teachers, support professionals, parents, and volunteers. Attends Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) meetings and any other meetings by request Serves as a community resource and supports the planning of family engagement literacy and MTSS events Keeps updated records, reports, and relevant data on students receiving enrichment or support services in the Student Information System( PowerSchool) or other district platform; presents data as requested. Integrates technology to deliver the curriculum and specially designed instruction more effectively. Communicate high and clear expectations for all students and staff. Assists students and teachers in monitoring their progress. Participates in school events and school and/or department improvement efforts. Supervises and assists with feedback, including but not limited to volunteers and teacher assistants, etc., as appropriate. Supports and assists school principal as it relates to the Library, enrichment, or MTSS. Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Supervises: Students, MTSS teams, Teacher Assistants, and Volunteers Skills Required: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, test data, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general public. Ability to calculate figures and amounts. Ability to utilize current technology for instruction, communication, data analysis, and access to research. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and school committee policies.
