About the role
Role Purpose
This role will support the Head of Safety, Standards and Environment to provide engineering expertise to ensure Porterbrook’s technical documentation remains accurate to asset configuration, compliant with latest standards and best practice and cost effective.
- Lead engineering/technical/safety projects delivered within the Safety, Standards & Environment Team
- Lead the resolution of engineering/technical queries with maintenance documentation for Porterbrook vehicles, including authoring documentation where required
- Lead the review of relevant changes in legislation, standards and best practice guidance, implementing necessary changes to ensure ongoing compliance and ensure continued best practice
- Represent Porterbrook and/or rail vehicle owners at cross-industry forums/events
- Support the management of Porterbrook’s intellectual property rights including sale and purchase of rights in line with business requirements
- Provide engineering, technical and safety management support to Long Marston Rail Innovation Centre as required
- Production of formal reports/KPI’s suitable for a senior audience detailing progress/performance against key objectives and workstreams
- Work alongside colleagues from across the business to deliver continuous improvement to Porterbrook's processes
- Delivery of engineering/standards/technical related projects in a multi-stakeholder environment
- Maintain and develop Porterbrook engineering competency management system
- Support resolution of safety and quality issues associated with Porterbrook’s assets & activities
- Support assessment of suppliers as part of Porterbrook’s supplier management activity
- Support the delivery of Porterbrook’s management of change and configuration management systems
Skills / Experience
Person with no less than five years' experience working in an engineering/standards role in a rail related business. Experience with rail vehicle engineering & maintenance activities, including the production/approval of engineering documentation such as maintenance plans including running maintenance and overhaul documentation. Familiar with development, implementation and maintenance of business processes aligned with ISO9001/14001/45001 standards. Previous experience of delivering engineering/technical projects
What you’ll need to have
- Bachelors/Masters degree (or equivalent) in an engineering or technical subject
- Incorporated or Chartered Engineer
- Project management qualification (APM Fundamentals, MSP or equivalent)
- ISO 9001/14001/45001 (or equivalent) Internal Auditor
- IOSH or NEBOSH General Certificate
- Rail vehicle maintenance & engineering principals
- UK rolling stock design, construction and maintenance methodologies throughout whole asset life
- UK railway industry standards, legislation and regulatory framework
- Quality management systems
- Environmental management systems
- Railway safety management systems
- Understanding of whole-life maintenance costs and principals of budget management
- Delivery of technical/engineering projects in a rail environment
- Ability to work independently and within a small, high-performing, team
- Communicate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of organisations to maintain effective personal relationships and meet goals
- Ability to positively influence others to achieve organisational benefit and drive continuous improvement
- Strong written communication skills
