Job Summary:

Serves in a trainee capacity in the major functional areas of one or more comprehensive program(s) for the County of Kauaʻi; receives orientation in and learns the principles, techniques, laws, methodology and work processes pertinent to the program; and performs other related duties as required.

Examples of Duties:

(The following are examples of duties and are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in this class. The omission of specific duties statements does not preclude management from assigning such duties if such duties are a logical assignment for the position).

  • Receives orientation and training in the basic function and purpose of the department’s program;

  • Learns the principles, techniques, laws, regulations, internal policies, methodologies, and work processes pertinent to the functional areas of the program;

  • Becomes familiar with the location and use of reference and resource materials, files, and related records;

  • Accompanies higher level program specialists on field trips and meetings with community organizations or programs as an observer;

  • Performs tasks and assignments designed to provide insight, knowledge, and understanding in the application of specific work processes and techniques pertinent to the program;

  • Carries out assignments and plans simple activities as part of the overall program;

  • Analyzes problems and prepares written reports using appropriate guidelines and under closely supervised and controlled conditions; and

  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Training and Experience:

A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a baccalaureate degree in public administration, business administration, or a field relevant to the Department/Agency's program(s) and activities.
