Department of German Studies - Teaching Assistant bei Grinnell College

Dates of Employment: August 21, 2026 – May 24, 2027

Job description:

• Teach weekly practice sessions with students in beginning German. (not more than 6 hours per week for 4 hour-long meetings and 2 hours of preparation time each week)
• Attend weekly extracurricular programming such as Deutschtisch (lunch on Mondays), Kaffeestunde (one afternoon each week)
• Provide support to students learning German classes by holding office hours
• Attend all departmental events (guest speakers, film screenings)
• Work with residents of German House to plan cultural events related to German-speaking cultures
• Total work schedule note to exceed 20 hours/week

Award:           

• Grinnell College pays for Tuition, Housing, Full Meal Plan at the campus dining hall, Health Insurance, Student Fees (approximate value $90,000)
• You get to take 2 4-credit classes per semester at one of the country’s best institutions
• Stipend: dispersed biweekly during term, currently $16/hour for 20 hours/week over a period of 30 weeks, total compensation $9600
• Round-trip air fare from Vienna-Grinnell
