Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for Halifax Regional Police’s (HRP) Police Science Program.

Halifax Regional Police's Police Science Program will prepare cadets to become Police Officers. Cadets who successfully complete the program will be offered employment with HRP as either a full-time Police Officer or a Reserve Officer, depending on availability at the time of hiring.

Applicant requirements:
We’re looking for people who put others first and who exemplify respect, values and who display integrity and want to positively influence and shape their communities.
You must also:
- Be at least 19 years of age by application deadline.
- Be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
- Have completed grade 12.
- No unpardoned criminal convictions.
- No criminal charges pending before the courts.
- Applicants who are newcomers will be required during the background and security stage, to produce a police clearance certificate from their originating country showing they have no criminal convictions. Due to the time required to obtain these certificates, applicants are encouraged to apply for these certificates as early as possible to ensure there is no delay in processing your application.
- Possess a valid Class 5 Nova Scotia driver's license or equivalent from another province, with no restrictions. Class 5 with an R maybe be considered.

Application and selection process:
Halifax Regional Police application and selection process involves 10 stages. The recruitment standards are high, and the selection process is challenging, but fair and achievable. Applicants must be successful in each stage before they can proceed to the next stage of the competition; not all applicants will proceed through all 10 stages. Halifax Regional Police Cadet Training - Police Science Program
Applicants who successfully progress through the application process will complete a 38-week practical training program through the HRP Police Science Program. The tuition for the program is $10,000. Funding is available through the Nova Scotia Student Assistance Office for qualified candidates as the HRP Northbrook Training Centre is a recognized private career college. We’re pleased to be able to offer this option to successful candidates and believe that this will allow more people the opportunity to apply for a career in policing.
